Drifted and crashed on to Curb at 50mph
This is what happens when drifted, drifted and drifted and crashed onto the curb at 50mph. It was a pretty steep right turn but there was a curb. I have taken this a few times but missed this time. Will I do it again? Think twice.
What did I do wrong?
What happened on a Friday afternoon?
Headed to the dealer at 20mph because no steering shake at 20mph and told the service consultant I need a wheel alignment. He asked me to make an appointment for Sat/Mon. I told him it's litte serious that I crashed and asked him to take a look. He did. He was suprised there's no body damage but said the wheels are beyond fixing and need a new one. SC also feared there could be suspension damage.. but told me GS350 F Sport has strongest suspension in the Lexus line. I waited for 30 mins and SC came back with some real news..
Headed home with the loaner 2015 RX350.
Wheels came on Tuesday.. Still couldn't get the alignment done. Found out Front Lower Control arm is bent because it took all the hit. Also changed the bushings. Came back on Thursday and everything checked out.
Total cost of repair $3900. After deductible I paid the rest.
I have to admit I could have been careful. The 6 days w/o GS I missed her so much. Now she's back I pamper her. Got to love it while it lasts.
What did I do wrong?
- Did not use Sport+.. Totally forgot about that.
- Weight distribution (sorry.. can't disclose this)
What happened on a Friday afternoon?
- On impact I could hear the metal clinging and scraping the concrete
- After impact I could immediately feel the steering wheel is bouncing or hard to hold it on place
- Parked the car and assessed the damage.. there's no scratch on the front bumper or the side of the body
- I thought I need a wheel alignment and new wheel. Both front and rear wheels looked real bad

- Can't do the alignment because front wheel is bent
- Front wheel bearing needs replacement
- Rear wheel needs replacement
- Rear wheel bearing needs replacement
- After replacing wheels and bearing they will do an other alignment to see if it checks out

Most folks take risks of some type in their lives. If you've weighed the potential costs when/if things go wrong and can live with those costs, that's your choice. We can all hope that we take away new insight when things go wrong. BTW, your car will most likely have an accident listed on Carfax, etc and will be worth less when time to sell because of that. It's called Diminished Value. Glad no one was injured.

Consider yourself lucky! The damage could have been much worse. Betcha didn't tell your insurance what you were doing - did ya?

Insurance kind of guessed it. They knew. I did not tell them. They were easy to work with. I was gonna do out of pocket expense if it's 2K but with 4K I thought I never had a claim in last 10 years so.. why not.. I'll be paying them back in next couple years.

Their labor is $145 at the dealer. I guess they had 6 or 8 hours of labor.. I thought about other options to fix it cheaper but longer..then took a quick route but expensive.
