Yeah I could never do much better than that with the GS either. My dad got good mileage from his LS sedans also.

yup, that v8 is very efficient on highway and the power / tq makes it so effortless. in the gs, i find myself "making" the car downshift all the time

When I first got back into the GS loaner it felt significantly coarser and louder than the LS to me, which surprised me because I always commented on how refined my GS was. However, as I drove it more that comparison faded away and I enjoyed it again. Then I got back into my LS and the additional refinement comes back into the forefront.

In other words, if you aren't comparing them all the time the GS is very smooth, quiet and refined. The LS is more of each.

The LS is more what I have been looking for vs the sportier nature of the GS. However, there was traffic on 270 today and I took my backroad through Potomac to the office. Moderately twisty roads, I often put the 4GS in Sport S+ and enjoyed the drive. The LS was...less enjoyable on that particular drive lets just put it that way LOL. I found myself hot into corners a lot in the LS where I wouldn't have been at all in the GS. I'd be interested to see an LS with air suspension and AVS or an F Sport and see if that can be improved in Sport S+. Either is out of my price range.

Overall I will take that tradeoff, but I can see how someone might not want to if they value handling and a nimbleness over that magic carpet ride. The GS has a great duality about it, the LS is much more singular minded.
Very nice summary, Steve. I'm glad you stick with the 18". The one I had was definitely more quiet than the GS but it's no library inside (man, that word gives me shivering ) There's still part of me wanting this car but as you mentioned I'd miss those little things in the last two paragraphs. When I got back into the GS, I didn't feel the want that strong. Once in awhile I like to put it into AVS and accelerate it as I merge to the freeway. Maybe a few more years I will change Glad it worked out in the end for you. Enjoy your airplane.

Yeah the 19s look better for sure, but I wanted the smoothest quietest ride possible. Also make sure the tires are aired properly. My LS is VERY quiet.

You should drive an LS with AVS or an LS F Sport. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it

Congrats on the great and wise decision!

After that long and useful thread on your alternatives this is definitely a glorious ending!

As commented before: know what remains to be discussed is if "the LS is the Japanese Mercedes or Rolls Royce..."

This has been a fascinating thread. Thanks for sharing your experiences with this new purchase. At the very least they should extend your factory warranty to 6 years and throw in free oil changes for as long as you own the car as a goodwill gesture for what they have put you through. I'm just totally surprised that a new LS would have a bad NAV system upon delivery. Someone missed a few steps in their new-car-delivery checkout. Glad it turned out well for you.

Thanks! They're supposed to be "doing something" for me, I've yet to hear anything.
