Default LA to Las Vegas MPG

From Marina Del Rey to Las Vegas. 280 mile trip nonstop. averaged 31.2 MPG at 70 MPH (ranged from 65 mph to somewhere around 100mph between Baker and Vegas for a minute or two)

Not a bad number for a 300+ hp vehicle, but I had to resist the urge and it was painful.

That's extremely good, especially since I mostly see 18 average mpg and rarely see 20 average mpg. Glad to see that if I did a road trip, it is possible to get good mog!

Wow that's awesome, I averaged only 42 per Gallon in our CT. Huge difference in size between the 2 vehicles.

Very nice numbers for the GS350!

According to the trip computer, I hit close to 35 mpg traveling on cruise control between 70-75 mph in my GS450h between San Antonio & Austin (which is a little less than 80 miles for me).

Despite being able to gain a bit in mpg, going slower than 70 is just painful for me, so I hate doing it, lol. These hwy numbers are crazy considering the power & space the 4GS has.

On my way to Vegas, I didn't have to put my foot on brake pedal or gas as it was on cruise control most of the time. It was early morning so not many cars.

On the way home, I only averaged 28.5 mpg until I got to 15/10 intersection at which point I stopped calculating since you'd get less than 25mpg from there to where I live in the west of LA no matter what you do. There were more downhills than my drive to Las Vegas, so I thought I should get better mileage, but it was really windy in many parts of my route so I guess wind plays a big part on efficiency or maybe our GSs aren't really aerodynamic.

Nice, reminds me of when i hit 24mpg in my 99' 4runner, cruise set at 65 the whole way, almost 50% better than EPA. Still have not turned over 24mpg in the GS yet, but haven't gone on any long drives either.

Sweet! Were you in Eco, Sport or Sport+ mode?

Did you stop for shakes at the Mad Greek?

I was in Eco mode cruise control most of the time except for a minute/two when I was going 100mph. I noticed considerable drop on average MPG on normal or sport mode. I noticed the car tends to downshift more withe these modes on uphill even at 70mph cruise control whereas Eco mode tries to stay at the highest gear.

This was a nonstop trip from LA to Vegas, but I've seen that place.

Default thats good

gas mileage for the car, i have been ready to pull the plug and buy a used 14 but every time i am ready i think how i went from an ls getting 20 mpg on premium and going to a 4 cyl xle camry getting 30 mpg with unleaded. i am getting used to the 30 mpg and don't think i can return, i think i will wait till they put the turbo four or a new fuel saving motor in the gs.
thanks for the post good info

Good to know the car can get this efficient, not sure if can however!

I have calculated my own mpg in the past by dividing miles driven into how much gas I had to add to the car on a full tank, and I found the car actually did about 1mpg better than the display said.

Not sure if my method or the car is more accurate, this was how I calculated mpg in the "old days" though!

I can promise I probably won't definitely do this ever again.

I like the fact that our GS can do this. Makes a nice conversation topic when people inquire at the gas station.
