Year old car, gone a week, dead battery
#47
my battery was replaced last Oct. the stock Panasonic lasted for 2+ years. i had a problem last week. the car started as usual but i lifted my foot off the brake too soon and the power was cut off. i can't restart it there after. it has a crank crank sound and also a few click sound at the passenger side dashboard but it did not fire up. The battery was way below 12v and need replaced. i have a feel that the sudden power cut off killed the battery.

I'll be leaving my car idle in the cold again for 10 more days starting this weekend. Hope it starts when I come back.

I just did a parasitic draw test on the GS showing 160mA drawing. Seem like too much for me.
I only have a dead battery couple time in the last 3 years because the car not driving much (less than 15K miles so far) but I put in a new Mega tron plus last October and the voltage measure between 12.3 to 12.5v when the car sit for a day or two so it seem like something drawing and the battery are drain but still able to start.
Is it normal that the GS drawing 160mA? Most people said it need to be less than 50mA.

I have had my 2013 GS for almost 3 years and have been on vacations up to two weeks with no battery issue. Car is garaged. I keep my keys away from the kitchen area as I read that the battery in car and the remote keys keep talking to each if too close. try that.

I think you'll find that Toyota/Lexus will tell you that your late model luxury car is within specs with a 0.1A - 0.2A (100mA - 200mA) parasitic current draw. At your 160mA parasitic draw, a typical fully-charged Group 24 battery will drain down to a 50% state-of-charge in about 23 days, which is still ample enough to start your car's engine. The key to maintaining a good battery is to make sure the car is driven for enough time to fully recharge the battery.
I started my car today after it sat in a freezing garage for 7 days. Success! Looks like the battery swap helped.

I would surmise that if the battery was at [say] an ~80% charged state (from having been sitting for awhile) when the car was started, that driving the car around for 20-30 minutes or so would likely bring the battery to a fully recharged (near 100%) state.

I went to the dealership to get a car wash two days ago. I was told Lexus has acknowledged and plans to release a fix for abnormal battery drain in GS soon. The tech will reach out when the fix is available. Not sure if software or hardware related.
Looks like we aren't just crazy
