I'm sure the electrically operated folding mirror can be moved manually without causing any damage. To make the mirror unable to be moved manually in case it is accidently hit/ bumped or needed to be manually moved because it was stuck with ice/snow would be a bad design. I'm sure the mirror's motor and gear freewheel if manually forced without using the motor.

I used the carista app to program mine. As soon as I switch the ignition off they fold in, and as soon as I start my car they fold out. I like this better since I am always in and out of my car and didn't want the mirrors folding in and out every time I unlocked/locked my car but wanted them to fold automatically.

I unlocked the car today via Enform remote. Noticed that the mirrors do not unfold when the vehicle is unlocked.
Makes sense-if you unlock the vehicle remotely, sight unseen, you won't know what obstructions might be in the way of the mirrors.

Love this feature
After having my 2014 GS for 10 months I saw an LS parking one day and their mirrors automatically folded in. I thought what a cool feature, I wonder why mine don't fold in automatically? Then, I got on this forum and realized that I could have mine fold in automatically and have the mirrors adjust when the car is in reverse. Now I use these features all the time. I have learned way more from this forum than from the owners manual.

When using the Enform Remote to unlock the vehicle, the mirrors do not "unfold".
I think that makes sense. If you are not near the vehicle you cannot know if there are any obstructions.

Think of the left forward mirror control button (Auto) as "Outboard"
Consider the unlabeled button on the right forward as "Inboard"
When you press the inboard button they fold in, Outboard sends them out.
It either mirror gets displaced by contact with a door frame or pedestrian
you just need to touch the inboard first and the outboard (Auto) and you
are good to go. Note: you can use the inboard switch to do both but you
then have defeated the Auto function of folding when locked.
