Is it just me or this car needs more Low End Power?
I feel like this car is a little slow at take offs, once it hits its peak RPM the power starts to kick in. What's the sweet spot for the torque? 4500 RPM?
Maybe if it has 300 ft-lbs of torque it'll pull better.
How is it compared to the Germans? Heard they have good low end power.

Okay, you were just asking for me to butt in again and talk about my S5.
I actually think the GS is more lively when you're first taking off, but then it runs out of steam until you floor it. I think this is just due to the throttle mapping. The S5 is more leisurely until you step on it, and then the torque is there throughout the rev range. It is a rocket.
For German cars in general, it is hard to beat the constant torque in the Audi 3.0 Supercharged engines. In the BMWs there is some turbo lag, but the torque is pretty constant after the turbos kick in. I've never driven a Mercedes, but I would imagine something like the CLS400 with the 6 cylinder twin turbo engine would have tons of torque.
The current GS with a turbo or supercharger would be a beast.

It's more of a track car than a drag car, so the engine performs best at a higher RPM...and the torque is a bit on the low side so pulling power is somewhat weak in comparison. If you want low-end torque that will set you back in your seat, a twin-turbo will make tons of torque starting at just above idle.

My biggest beef with Lexus is that they have tuned the new eight speed transmission to not downshift at part throttle without thinking about it and phoning a friend before it agrees to be in the right gear. I had a 2010 GS350 that always felt lively and responsive. I was dumbfounded at the lack or response on our 2014. I have to drive it in sport plus to have the responsiveness of the 2010, but it's like a pit bull on crack in sport plus, and regular sport is not a lot different than comfort.
