Is it just me or is the 19/29 estimated mpg completely false?

I filled-up with gas and reset the following: Odometer A, Average MPH, Average Speed, and Average MPG.

I drove a total distance of 19.0 Miles in Normal Drive Mode in stop-and-go city traffic with lots of traffic lights, which took one hour of time in which I averaged 19 MPH. I averaged 19.1 MPG. I have no complaint with that fuel consumption (19.1 MPG) only averaging 19 MPH with all the stopping at traffic lights and then accelerating back up to speed, over and over again.

If I combined 50% highway driving with 50% stop-and-go city driving my average MPG would probably be around 22~24 MPG. My average MPG with 100% [flat] highway driving at a constant speed would probably be around 27~29 MPG.

So, I'd say that the estimated fuel economy of 19 MPG City & 28 or 29 MPG Highway is reasonable. That said, getting hung in bumper-to-bumper city traffic and spending a lot of time without moving at traffic lights will really lower the city MPG a lot. And, not being able to maintain a constant speed and braking and accelerating will really lower the highway MPG a lot.

Mine got killed by LA traffic. That stop and go really killed my MPG more than city driving.

On my 13, I get an average of 22 when I do all week highways trips. When I do local roads and some highway, I average about 17.4-18

I consistently get 22.5 city driving and average 29-30 highway driving after 12,000 miles on the car. Best highway mileage was 31 mpg DFW to Austin roundtrip (over 400 miles highway driving). I have no complaints about mileage in this car. It all depends on how you drive.

I agree with your last sentence. With my 2013 RWD GS350, I get 25-27 MPG in town here in Tucson, with 100% city driving, It is stop and go, but it is not comparable to Chicago or New York City. There may be a quarter of a mile or more between some traffic lights, On the highway, I get 27-30 MPG cruising at 70 to 75 MPH. I never use the ECO mode. My mileage differs so much from what others experience that I considered the possibility that my odometer was not functioning properly. Checking it against highway mile markers, it seems to be OK. Yes, I know that I get better than the EPA rating. I believe it is a matter of driving style.

Thanks for your input. Is your car RWD or AWD? I suspect RWD which mine is AWD. It appears Lexus advertises 19/29 which is probably for the RWD and fail to mention it's less for AWD.

Yes it is RWD. I suspect mileage on the AWD models would be less.

EPA mileage estimates between RWD and AWD are only about 1-2 miles per gallon difference. Driving style does have alot to do with it. I hardly drive with ECO unless Im in stop and go traffic. I feel like when your in ECO your actually depressing the accelerator more in order to get up to speed when your not in stop and go traffic therefore wasting more gas? IDK.. LOL Anyways my car is still fairly new Im not gonna stress with the gas mileage.. I didnt buy this car for the MPGs.

That's some pretty good mileage. I can get about 27 +/-1 when I'm at 70-75, but around town I'm around 18. I think I'm averaging 21ish overall, but that's with A LOT of highway, and I'm not very aggressive with the throttle. I'm hoping it'll get better after my first oil change, but I also didn't buy this car for the mileage.

Just drove from San Diego to Irvine in the carpool and averaged 30.5 MPG! I kept it right about 70 miles an hour using cruise control. When I returned to San Diego the average was 28.5.

My mileage improves with high grade brand of gas. I typically buy gas at Costco, however, if I fill-up with BP premium my mileage will improve slightly.....not enough to offset the cost. I can also see a difference when I'm driving to our downtown area, which is slightly up hill, so driving back home I reset the average

Current average mpg 20.3 , average speed 28 mph... darn freeway traffic for most of my driving.

Oh yeah, then when I finally have some open road I stamp the pedal pretty hard to make up for lost fun!!

The "Fuel Consumption" info is pretty neat on the GS, real time mpg and recorded mpg every minute over the last 15 minutes.. have fun trying to hit 40 mpg!

Been using that cheap Coscto premium grade gas lately. Gave up on Eco mode and drive about 60% city and 40% highway. Been averaging about 17MPG. Overall not much different than Eco mode. That Sport and Sport+ mode though really eats up the mileage.

Don't forget your fuel economy trip display (by date).
