My Independent BMW mechanic also works on Lexus. He gave me the same work for a lot less than what the stealer charges. Just be aware of this fact before you sign off on the service invoice. The "inspections" they perform are not "repairs" and it doesn't need to be that expensive. Shop around, you'll notice there are lot of independent shops that do the same work for a fraction of the price.

You'll thank me since it's Christmas season.

How much does an oil change cost normally at the dealer? Just oil change.

They still do basic inspections when u do just an oil change anyway. I saved tons of $$ when I still had my Camry, been doing oil changes only every 5K for 40K miles on that car before I traded it in and never had a single problem.

The car uses synthetic oil, changes are every 10k miles. Typically, stealerships charge about $135 for oil changes but they try to sweeten the deal by giving you a free car wash, coffee/donuts in the waiting room and upper-tier panache. If they offer "coupons", the price comes down to what an Independent mech would charge, which would be in the $60-$80 range.

Damn $135 for oil change. Guess I'll be calling a Toyota dealer then cause I don't know any independent mechanics here and won't let just anyone touch my car. Why pay more for the same stuff? Toyota dealers have coffee and donuts too.

Yea this car is every 10K miles so I'll be saving even more money. $80 sounds reasonable though.

I've read that some folks DO take their luxury brands to the "mother brand" dealerships for maintenance service and most of the time, there's no issues. Acura owners also take their cars to Honda dealerships to save some "skrilla".

Premium brand = premium prices.

In Japan, many Lexus models are badged with the Toyota logo. /shrugs

My Dealership offers free oil changes while I own the car.
I've yet to take it and and am wondering what else gets tacked on with these so called free oil changes? Can't see them letting me out of the dealership without $$ changing hands!

Will I get a bill for inspection?

Free oil changes are cool. I'm not sure about the donuts and coffee being free.

Is there a 15k mile service on the 4gs. If yes, what is involved?

Tire rotation and inspection only for 15K mile service. I would skip that and save the cash.

Yea if it doesn't involve oil change, skip it.

I think the 15K miles service includes changing the remote battery. U can go to Auto Zone and get a pair of battery and do it urself for a lot cheaper.

FSport RWDs tires can't be rotated so the 5K miles interval is pretty much worthless. Just change ur cabin filter at 12-15K miles and check ur engine filter too. Easy stuff.

At the BMW dealership service there's a mandatory $100 diagnosis fee, right off the top. And this is before they find anything wrong (and charge you more on top of the $100).

So, why go to the dealership if there's a cheaper option for the same work?

Not for the first 40,000 miles they don't. All maintenance is free on a BMW. I think that only tires are not covered.
