I've owned 3 Lexus cars and have only taken them to the same Lexus dealership for service. I had no clue about the synthetic oil and oil changes every 10k miles. I've been taking my 4th gen GS in every 5k miles (the first 2 services were complimentary of course) and just paid $199 for a 15k service. All the dealership did was change the smartkey battery $6.99 and change the wiper blades $10.40 each. There was some random charge of $32.49 for what I assume was related to the wiper blades. Labor was $110 for one hour of service. When I looked over the bill, I felt like such a flippin idiot. I like my service advisor but not enough to be ripped off again. I'll be calling the nearest Toyota dealership tomorrow to compare prices. The parts on this car (battery and tires) are so expensive so why overpay ever again for overrated service.

The car is CPO and they said that all maintenance was free so Ill be pretty upset if I get hit with a charge.

I hope that's true, $100+/hour labor really stings. Independents cost about $65-$75 hour.

Ouch. That's all stuff you can do very simply all by yourself. Save at least $110 on labor.

The service maintenance schedules that do not require engine oil/filter changes are not necessary to maintain the vehicle's warranty.

Those 'in-between' maintenance schedules (not requiring engine oil/filter changes) are just to inspect fluid levels and adjust (engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, antifreeze, windshield washer, etc.), visually inspect brake pads, calipers and rotors, and rotate tires (if F&R are same size). The technician will also check the driver's floor mat to make sure it is latched, reset the maintenance reminder light, and road-test the vehicle. Even if you decline or don't need the tire rotation, the dealer visit will still be expensive for nothing more than what most anyone can do in 15 minutes of their time. And, most tire dealers (e.g. Discount Tire) will rotate and re-balance your tires free-of-charge. Of course at the Lexus dealership you can get a free car wash, but that may not be needed...or wanted if you prefer to hand-wash your car.

All-in-all in my opinion, visiting the Lexus dealership's service department for the 'in-between' maintenance schedules are more for people that don't know which way to turn a screwdriver to loosen or tighten a screw, and/or don't mind spending a significant amount of money needlessly for something most anyone familiar with cars can routinely do themselves.

I have always chosen to use the dealership for required maintenance that could affect the warranty coverage (e.g. engine oil/filter changes) so there is no question if a warranty issue ever arises.

Looks like I'll be making a trip out to Cali lol dang I gotta get use to paying for my oil changed again. BMW and VW spoiled me. And before that I had a Tahoe, it was like $36 for an oil and tire rotation at the dealer, which is like paying nothin at all really. **** service is expensive haha gotta pay to play suckas
