didn't think it was possible to buy a new car without articulating wipers
Washed the new GS the other day and could not believe the car doesn't have articulating wipers.
I traded in a 2006 Range Rover Sport S/C in on the Lexus and it also did not have articulating wipers. I figured since the Land Rover was built by an "old world" car manufacturer that this omission of a basic automotive convienence could be overlooked and blamed the car company's ancient ways of building cars.
But alas, the more modern, 21st century Lexus GS does not have articulating wipers either.
...can't believe it!
I thought EVERY car had articulating wipers...

Your talking about auto rain sensing wipers? Mine has that feature its part of a car package. So this means you didnt buy your car with the right package. You should have paid more Money.

What are articulating wipers?
The wipers on my GS are just like every other car I've ever had.
Do you mean the wipers don't pull up from the glass when you're washing the car? They do, you just have to pull them up into winter mode first.

What the heck is articulating wipers?!
My wipers wipe my windshield clean and that's good for me.

A simple good search informed me that BMW and most auto manufacturers are doing away with that feature. It also showed that the Lexus RX has it and some other cars were listed.

I believe they are wipers that have multiple hinge points. Instead of a wiper that covers a standard arch, I others words it is a straight line from the base of the arm to the tip of the wiper. With articulating there are two hinge point one within the line of the rubber wiper and one at the based of the wiper (not base of the arm). This allows the wiper to be none circular and cover more space. Thus one wiper can cover a windshield instead of two. Example I believe is the 2007 Mercedes clk.
Is that explanation confusing enough?

I thought OP meant those telescoping wipers that can cover more of the windshield...
Frankly I think the wipers work fine and get enough coverage. I'd imagine the the articulation in the video adds an additional weak point. Sure it is cost cutting, but I haven't found it to be all that important.

Yup, just pull the wipers up towards the roof and they will pop up into snow mode, then they can be lifted up like that.
