Default Base GS versus Hyundai Genesis

Has anyone had occasion to comparison shop the base 2015 GS and the 2015 Hyundai Genesis? Besides the hideous "H" on the back of the Genesis, it appears to be very well appointed at a much lower price.

The Genesis may be very well equipped for the price, but what I imagine to be a terrible purchase experience would prevent me from buying one.

We drove both back to back - I was really pushing the Genesis when we walked in - I don't care about brand and just wanted the best car. We drove it, it seemed nice, like a larger G37 sedan. No comparison to the F-sport - after my wife and I both drove it, we were done and bought a GS.

I would suggest go to hundai forum. I did purchased a 2012 Genesis brand new a few years back, which I absolutely hated and retuned the next day. If 2014 anything like the 2012 model, i would stay clear.

The old one wasn't much to write home about but the new one looks pretty nice. The KDM emblems look much better and are easy to find

I was thinking about getting one after my lease is up on my GS, but after sitting in it at the car show, not even driving it, I decided that it wasn't for me. the build quality it pretty cheap (gaps, non leather dash, cheap plastic materials). on top of that, i could not get in a comfortable driving position - the seat was not comfortable for me in the back and leg area. it was lacking the premium car feel. that was enough for me to steer clear from thinking about getting one.

Came out of an '11 Genesis 4.6. Nice highway car but always felt like a passenger rather than the driver. Car had absolutely zero issues and traded for the GS because I was looking for an AWD car after last winter. I would have purchased the Genesis 5.0 awd but that model is not available in US so ended up cross shopping the V6 awd Genesis and the Lexus. V6 awd Genesis does not perform nearly as well as the GS awd.

I drove the new 2015 Hyundai Genesis a couple weeks ago, I posted a review in the Car Chat forum:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...-thoughts.html

In short...the only reason *I* would buy the GS over the new Genesis is because the GS is a Lexus. If I'm being totally honest, its the Gods honest truth. The new Genesis is WORLDS better than the old Genesis, it truly is a great car...one of the better and more compelling cars I've driven in years. I still love my GS, but I must give credit where credit is due.

The GS and the Genesis are different. The GS is lighter, and sharper handling while still being very refined, smooth and quiet. Comparing the V6 Genesis the GS is considerably quicker. The Genesis however is better riding, quieter, and all around feels more like the LS than the GS, and the V8 is great...thats what I would get no question. That appeals greatly to me, it may not to you. Stylingwise I think the GS is better looking, although the Genesis is also good looking, it looks longer. Inside the Genesis is very high quality, from a style perspective I still prefer the GS. That wouldn't keep me out of a Genesis though.

If you are buying a sedan in this class, you MUST drive the new Genesis and give it a fair shake. Ownership experience will be different, dealers will be different, you have have the "H" badge replaced by the Genesis badge. But...as a car its very well done and very compelling to me. I will seriously consider a Genesis wen the lease on the GS is up.

The low price is just icing on the cake. Irregardless of price, in a lot of ways it just plain is a better car. Not all ways, but in a lot of ways.

Good write-up on the comparison Steve. I have a close friend that has a Genesis and have ridden in it a number of times. I'd say you are spot-on...

If I were going to get one, this is the combo I'd get:

I've looked at all the video reviews on YouTube. Reviewers say to opt for the 6 cylinder over the V8 because there is not much difference; also the 6 cylinder is a better value. But to my trained eye, the V8 model looks more substantial. Like an ISF comapred to a regular IS, for example.

It's not a bad car at all. I would have leased it vs. Buying a lexus

Like a first gen car, I'll wait until they work out the initial bugs before I even consider it. It takes awhile to eliminate the stigma of the brand and years of a reputation of low quality.

Like I previously stated, I loved my V8 Genesis and had no issues with it. The awd V8 only available in Canada.
