Default XM Channel Labels?

I was in my friends BWM last week and his XM channels are labeled. Did our radios miss this feature? Or am I missing something?

That is pretty pathetic - I figured it was a setting I hadn't gotten to yet. Lexus really is not sweating the details on their nav/audio systems.

It's just that technology is now steamrolling. By the time a car goes from final design to production the tech,OS and computer chips, are all ready a few generations behind. Really the computer chips in the GS had to have been finalized in late 2011 or early 2012 in order for the chip orders to go into production. So it's like an iPhone4, still usable, but no longer able to get IOS upgrades because of older chip technology. Carmakers are going to have to start pairing up with Apple or Microsoft for their technology integration.

You already had the Fords hooked up with Microsoft. That marriage didn't start off so well a few years ago and I think it has ceased. I recall seeing somewhere that Ford was hooking up with Blackberry.

Bottom line is that it is increasingly difficult to keep up with tech as you have mentioned. Not long after the first car of a particular model leaves the assembly line, most of the tech it contains already needs updating. I can't see a way to remedy that.

It is a very simple and inexpensive "way to remedy that": it's called firmware update, however Lexus is very reluctant to offer this, probably because the smart(?!) people from Lexus Marketing Team believe us, the Lexus users, will jump and update our vehicles to the next model every year. Strange approach... I have hard time believing that the vast majority of Lexus owners are leasing or buying the latest model every year.

Not every year but more like 2-4 years for those who are leasing. This isn't iPhone that we can upgrade every year. lol

And this is why they should worry about Tesla. The level of service is much higher (and the updates and features keep coming). Lexus is known for its amazing service quality, but frankly this is an area they really need to improve on.

Yep - supposedly they are getting dynamic cruise control and some other features right around now.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day you'll be able to summon your parked car to pick you up at the door via your phone.

Gen7 navigation in your MY13/14 GS's will not have it. Gen8 debut's better color art and better labeling on MY15 GS, and all MY15 IS, CT, GX, NX, RC and ES, however probably won't be up to par for what you're asking.
