Default DIY Oil Change With Pics!!

Ok so I guess I had some spare time hopes this helps others that maybe have been looking for pics and a DIY for oil change on the 4GS.

Ok you will need synthetic oil, oil filter and gaskets. You may also want to get some rags and some gloves. You will need a size 65/67mm for releasing the oil filter.
Here are the items needed. AWD requires 6.8Q I think RWD is 6.7Q

First start by locating the oil screw looks like this. Unscrew the oil cap on the engine in the engine bay before draining the oil.

You then want to drain the oil.

After the oil has drained out begin the process of unscrewing the oil filter. Look for this trap door and unscrew that should be three screws.

Default DIY Con't

Alright filter taken out and replace the gasket and drain the oil inside and replace with new filter.

Once replaced filter then replace and hand tighten with wrench to what you feel comfortable back.
Now move back to the oil pan area and replace the screw back you can choose to replace the gasket on the screw or just reuse. I replaced it, hand tighten with wrench and size 14 to what you feel is comfortable be careful not to over tighten screw.
Proceed to poor 6.8Q of oil into the engine once everything is sealed back up.

Once you have poured it all in start the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes. Then check under the car for any oil leaks. Once car is on flat surface check the oil dipstick to make sure it is perfect.
After this you are finished hope this helps.

No gloves during the oil change process?

Did you use the Toyota SST Oil Wrench to remove the filter?

Not to be negative or anything but I think you need to more than just hand tighten the oil drain plug and the oil filter housing to prevent them from loosening up and leaking oil.

How are you going to loosen the drain plug & oil filter housing if you using something more than hand tighten?

Did you really just hand-tighten your drain plug?

I think drain plug needs more than hand tightening. otherwise, good write-up.

Same way you tighten it, with a wrench.

I'm completely agreeing with all the other comments on here, you NEED to tighten the drain plug beyond just hand tightening.

Otherwise, great write up.

My view of hand tighten is making sure to tighten the nut with the wrench just enough not to over tighten.
