Default Tires

Looking to replace my current tires, 245-35-20, have about 20k miles on them and getting bad vibrations, I made the mistake of buying Federals a couple years ago. I know most swear by Michelin, but is there a second preference, maybe a tad cheaper in price, 700-800 range that are quiet, that is the first preference.

Thanks

As you said you don't want to go cheap like the federals or you will end up with hassles and end up paying more money for replacement. I could not find many great tires for the price you are asking on tire rack. I would stick with Michelins or Continentals or Bridigestone for the GS otherwise you will ruin the fun and the great ride/handling balance it comes with.

If you really want something cheap:

I hear some good things about these.

Thanks! I'm gonna stay away from super cheap for now on, lesson learned. I seen the Bridgestone Potenza s001 on tire rack for about 800 or the Dunlop SP Sport Max for about 550. I'll do some research on these...just looking for a smooth quiet ride, not looking to race anyone.

Suggestions are welcomed, it also crossed my mind to sell my Lorenzo Wl19s and go a concave route with new tires as a package. Decisions decisions

Consider the new Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tire. We recently did our review of it (which I was a part of the testing) and found it to be a really nice tire for the dollar. It had an excellent ride quality to it, and performed very well on our test track.

How is the road noise between the Dunlop, Ventus, and Continentals?

I found the Continental and the Dunlop were pretty even. The Hankook rode a little more rough.

The Continental Extreme Contact DW is not available in the tire size you are asking for, 245-35-20

If I was to go with all season instead of summer, would I get longer thread life and quieter ride or doesn't matter?

As far as tire thread life is concerned, you have to look at the UTQG rating of the tire. The higher the number, the longer the tire should last in similar driving conditions.

Summer performance tires are designed totally different than all season tires. They are built for warm weather and maximum dry and wet traction. Any ride comfort and tire longevity is an added benefit but as the technology evolves, I anticipate that to change a bit. There are several tires that are evident of that, including the Dunlop I mentioned.

All season tires are designed to do many different things, and by their nature will generally last a little longer and ride a little quieter.

Not always do I agree with this statement.

Here is some information regarding UTQG
