So I went and got my car dynoed today just for fun, mostly to hear the exhaust note on the rollers My handheld video camera stop recording because it errored out and said it was to loud (it was placed by the rear of the car) I really havent looked at that camera yet to see what it recorded, but if there is good footage I will post it later. This video is just taken from my cell phone. They did three pulls. It was a awesome experience! I finally got to see my rotors in action (3rd person) and I think it looks awesome! Anyways here is the video and chart. Enjoy




I had my car on the dyno and my handheld camcorder in the rear of the car, this video and the other are cut off because my camcorder errored out and said the audio was to loud, and probably didn't want to blow the mic.

Seems about a 15% powertrain loss, 306hp - 15% powertrain loss, 260hp.

RWD probably puts down more I'm assuming (less powertrain loss with RWD).

Ouch, the AWD sure has a lot of parasitic loss from the drivetrain. Cool videos though.

This is exactly why I hate AWD's. Less power, eats more gas. Plus, they serve no purpose in regions where winter lasts no more than 2 months. Yet Lexus insists that we need AWD and only AWD here.....

260 HP to the wheels, that's not bad at all.

The 2GR engine in my Camry V6 puts down about 230 HP/TQ to the wheels and it was rated 268 HP and 258 TQ on paper. It's a FWD car.

I always read that 15% loss in the drivetrain is about normal for any car (though tends to be higher as a percentage for less powerful cars, and lower for more powerful cars). So that seems to be not bad at all, but obviously the RWD GS would do a little better--that's why the MPG figures are slightly better for it.

Also what altitude is the place where this was run? Or did they correct for that? Because I think the 306 HP spec is at sea level, and if you're anywhere above that you will see less power.

Well from what the dyno tech told me is that the dyno machine is connected to a weather station outside of the building that takes into consideration of all these different attributes that make up the weather. The WCF stands for "with correction factor" what takes into consideration the varibles, he said the HP it would put down on the street is that WCF 270 # So I guess its actually 270 HP

The elavation is 896 feet above sea level

Yeah I know what your saying about the AWD. My last car 07' TL Type S was FWD car, I loved it a lot, as it was good in snow with my Michellen X-ICE 2, but I didn't feel super comfortable powering into turns (I driving spirited) because of it being FWD. I choose the GS 350 because it was AWD and very pratical where I live in Wisconsin, and winter can drag on for 5 + months, its also a 4 door as i have 2 kids and is roomy enough as I'm 6'2" 240lbs I also love the interior and the exterior styling of the car, and also the reliability of the Lexus company. If I lived in a warmer state, I would have went with someone that is rear wheel drive with more horse power. I owned my lexus for almost 3 months and really enjoy the car though.

While I feel that the main benefit to AWD is indeed winter driving, there are other benefits as well. If the GS is like the new IS, real world testing is showing that, despite extra powertrain losses and the extra weight, the IS350 AWD out-accelerates the IS350 RWD to 60 mph.
