GS Not Ugly
When I was road testing luxury cars back at the end of 2012 prior to buying the GS, many of the American auto reviews referenced the spindle grill on the GS as being ugly. The Canadian reviews were ambivalent. Now, I like the GS's spindle grill and the overall look of the GS. In fact, I prefer the more reserved interpretation of the spindle on the GS than that on the IS.
The interesting thing is that the Globe and Mail named their 10 ugliest cars in Canada and not a single Lexus model made the list, however one BMW model did.

I think the spindle grill is getting more acceptance than when it was introduced, similar to the Audi "horse collar" grill looking different and shocking when it first came out but commonplace now. Comments from friends have gone from "ugly" to "I don't mind it" to "it looks neat on the IS/GS/CT.

I didn't love the spindle grille until i saw it in person... pictures don't do it justice. However i must admit, that i like the IS base grille over the F sport grille...

Yea the BMW Gran Turismos are ugly, their sedans are nice though, especially with the M Sport packs.

Maybe GS didn't get on the "ugly" list, but it is not winning any beauty awards either. Shame, because inside it is pretty nice.
In terms of looks (midsize luxury market) here are my ranks:
1. 5series w/ Msport package (M sport is a key)
2. Infiniti M37
3. Audi A6
4. New E class
5. Lexus GS

Me too, in fact even the GS F-Sport is too aggressive for my taste. However, I can totally understand why other people might like the F-Sport version better. This must be the kind of thing that gives marketing people nightmares.

When my wife and I did our due diligence to buy, it came down to the 5 series sedan and the GS. Oddly, we had test drove the 5 series Gran Turismo and seriously gave it consideration. It was the high price premium ($20k+) and the exterior dimensions that was off putting.
Mind you the Infiniti M's awkward exterior, gaudy interior and dated ride compliance that knocked it out of the running for us.
To this day, we both still love the GS and 5 series sedans' exterior, interior and drive characteristics.

All I know is I get a lot of compliments on the GS...more than on any other Lexus I've had.

Yea I kinda thought the Non-FSport 3IS front end looks better than the FSport one.
