Default K&N Intake Released for 4GS

I happened to stumble across this today which i hadn't seen before. Unlike the Cone style cold air intake offering for the 3GS, K&'N essentially uses a new tube similar to Joe Z or the F Sport, and they throw in a K&N OEM sized air filter. This would make sense considering i read posts saying people had to mod the 3GS K&N Cold Air Intake to fit their new 4GS.

Check it out. I think i'll stick with the JoeZ. However, Interesting HP claim of 12.57 HP @ 5498 RPM

I wish they would've gone with the cone style filter like their other aftermarket intakes that give a nice growl.

This will be the same as factory setup, maybe even quieter. But it's only $200 and would be a nice eye candy.

It is quieter, you hear very slight hissing but once I slapped the full exhaust on it the hiss disappeared entirely haha

I knew about the old post.....but it was just released on their website. Over 12hp is a steep claim for what it is. I've always wondered about the "conditions" when they run their dyno tests.

The factory air box has the charcoal filter so eliminating that will also eliminate them applying for CARB exemption. Most of the intake companies are going to rotomolded sealed intakes but I agree on the lack of growl.

There's no need to wonder since their dyno chart shows the date, time, temperature, gear and humidity at the time the tests were performed. K&N is very thorough in their testing and have successfully sued other intake manufacturers and won against them making false claims against their products.

N54MPower,

There are several ways to manipulate your Dyno runs. Well beyond the temp and humidity, lol. Years ago I used to hang around a performance shop that had 2 dynos so i've seen it first hand. One of the ways is leaving the hood open versus closed. Fan/air mover relocation is another. And third, there is always "loading the drum". I'll let you look that one up. I'm not saying their products are not beneficial as i've personally used them on several vehicles....just stating what's blatantly obvious sometimes.

So has anyone actually installed this yet? The growl that it produces is less than the OEM sound generator? The growl that the Typhoon created on the 3GS was outstanding...and much better than this new sound generator on the 4GS.

There wouldn't be any growl, it's using the stock air box. The 3GS was using that cone filter and no stock air box.

Yeah, I don't think that's right.

The metal tube is what's responsible for the increased noise.

Regardless, I bought one and will compare the differences this weekend.

Let me know how it goes. If it sounds good then I'll get one too.

I put a K&N typhoon on my V6 Venza and what a waste. Lots of noise, performance gain? who knows. On a GS I was surprised at a factory noise producer but the throaty sound is OK. Why ruin a low profile sleeper for no reason. You might as well buy a coffee can muffler like the kid down the street.
