I still haven't mastered is the accelerator. When backing up or maneuvering, find it difficult depress the pedal just right to get the car moving gently. Always afraid of hitting it too hard and slamming into the car behind. My 2000 GS 300 was very touchy but for some reason I was able to control it better. Anyone else challenged by this?

They all feel the same to me. Honda, Toyota, Lexus, floor mounted, top mounted. Maybe my foot can adapt quickly.

I actually prefer the brakes on our GS' s because it very responsive amd is better for panic stopping. My 2001 Corvette had brakes that were mushy from the factory which I fixed by upgrading to Brembo BBK and braided brake lines.

I agree. Just tentative when either backing up a slight incline or so. The 2000 GS had a very touchy/jumpy accelerator pedal and required less pressure to depress. The new one requires a more pressure and is not at all jumpy. I guess I just need to practice.

Sorry but if you aren't comfortable useing the accelerator pedal because it's to difficult to get the hang of ...You shouldn't be driving...

I think this is a little over the top. The guy asked a simple question, and perhaps something isn't right with his accelerator...

Anyways, no issues here. Did your 2000 GS have a top mounted or floor mounted accelerator? The floor mounted pedal in the 4GS has a little more push back which could take some getting used to in the manner you mention.

I find it easier and less touchy than all previous cars, however, because the pivot point is different (bottom of the pedal) it does take some getting used to, and perhaps a slightly different foot position. I think you can't just press on the pedal with the ball of your foot, you need to have the whole foot flat on the pedal.

Doug. I find that when I put this car or any of my automatics for that matter, I have to keep my foot near or on the brake pedal as the car starts moving back on its own with enough power and speed to get me most of the way to the rear that I need to travel. Granted in my part of Texas the land is quite flat. Maybe stop by the service dept of your Lexus dealer and see what service manager has to say. Good luck.

Thanks. I am confident it is just a feel thing. Lexus' weren't known for driver feedback back in 2000. As SW13GS mentions, it did not require as much pressure, I believe it was top mounted. In addition, the throttle definitely opened quicker, at least on my car. Usually, the idle is enough to move but sometimes it needs a little extra fuel.

Well good luck with it. I'm sure within a week or two it will become second nature and you won't think about it again. It's certainly a fun car to drive going forward...lol

Mine has a little lag between the time I step on it and the engine actually rev up. I feel it especially when getting out of a driveway from a stop and merging to fast moving traffic.

I think that's a little harsh too. Maybe 20 years ago I had a Mazda 929 which was probably my first experience with a drive by wire pedal and I never got used to it. The dealer offered no help with the matter and after not too long a time I traded the car for I believe a Camry and never returned to Mazda or that dealer.

Keep working with your Lexus a while and I think you will get used to it. It is also possible that there is a problem with your car so you might have your dealer check it out.
