It depends on what you're used to as far as bass. If you just want a slight increase in bass, replacing the stock sub should be fine. But if you want it really loud that you can feel it in your seat, you're gonna need a sub in an enclosure.

Yea I know what you mean. You'd probably have to get a 10" or 12" sub with an enclosure and maybe a bass processor along with it. The bass processor will increase the lower frequencies.

Sounds beautiful..
My factory sub and amp are still connected, so I can just turn off extra sub and amp when I need to.

Rockford Fosgate makes a great powered sub in a 10" or 12" with a built in 300w amp. I got my 12" installed two weeks ago and it's added just the right amount of bass for me:
