Default Safe to use with only double sided tape?

I am also interested in purchasing a spoiler and using with only double sided tape. Do you guys think this is safe? Any chance the tape will lose its adhesion and fall off on the highway or anything like that in your opinions?

If you use the proper double-sided automotive tape there will be no problem whatsoever. I would suggest using 3M Scotch Acrylic Foam Double-Sided Tape. It will bond the two surfaces like it is welded after it is heated and sets up for a while.

I got the OEM color coded Lip Spoiler and got it installed by local Lexus dealership.

Here are the pictures before and after.

Here is some pics of the Wald Spoiler i bought off a member here! One thing that bugged me about this is the right side is lifted a little and isn't sitting flush with trunk! A shop here installed with double sided tape along with adhesive promotor. Removable when needed but had it on for a few months and still holding on strong!

After discussing with my dealer, they wanted to charge $600 for the non-fsport spoiler and installation. I told them I could purchase the spoiler from another Lexus dealer on-line for around $260 but they still said they still were charging around $300 for the install.

I ended up doing it myself: I used a dremel to cut out the two bolts on the OEM spoiler. The spoiler came with pre-cut double-side tape. This OEM tape was grey in color but with no "branding" on it (not sure if it was 3m or some other type). I bought some 3M 20lbs mounting tape (1-inch holds 1lb) from Lowes for $10 and put some of this tape around the areas that didn't have pre-installed tape.

Carefully mounted with patience and using a lot of force. It bonded quite well. I think the OEM tape would've been enough.

My Advice: Buy the spoiler yourself, cut off the bolts carefully using a dremel, and use the OEM tape/3M and enjoy.

GS350Dat,

Do you have pics of your spoiler from the back on? The dealer did not install mine properly from the factory and is replacing it all together.

I want to put on the WALD spoiler and then sell the new one they are going to put on separately- but I want to know what the WALD looks like on my car (yours is Obsidian like mine).

Thx

I had the Sewell dealership in Dallas add the rear spoiler and illuminated door sills installed for $753 even. The spoiler can be ordered by your color type. I think on Lexus's web site they advertise the spoiler for $395 and the sills for $425 installed. Yes, they are glued on with double-sided tape. I did not care for the spoiler install as it did not lay completely flat over the entire trunk surface because not enough taped spots. I asked to have them fix it but could not that day but said they would on the next service visit. I think they have to heat it up for removal.

Default Wald Spoiler (Obsidian)

I've had the Wald F Sport spoiler on for a couple years now - love it - attached are the pics. I didn't screw it down, just used the provided double sided tape as that is how the dealer said they were installing them anyways, unless a customer was adamant about screwing it down.
