Joeb is describing the habits of the older transmissions. The ones in the 4GS and 3IS will hold the gear without downshifting. The question is whether the transmission will automatically upshift at redline or bounce off of the limiter. My '13 and the '15 I drove over the weekend upshifted...

dchar - that's interesting. I forgot about that feature. Don't know if I have it in my 2013 GS.

How did you "train" the computer? By attempting to accelerate quickly from stops?

Do other 2014/2015 GS owners sense that their car's tran is changing over time, due to an internal adjustment?

I started accelerating a little more aggressively and I think it's helped with the responsiveness. Though I don't bother with manual shift, and now after reading this thread I understand why (not direct-shift). I still think it's a bit early to tell if that's the reason or if it's just my initial change in habit, but I was definitely put-off by the slow responsiveness at first.

Car ECU learn how you drive and adapts to it. I tend to drive with a heavy foot. With heavy accelerations from stop and moments of hard acceleration on the freeway, the car learns that I want instant response and maps the throttle more aggressively. So all I have to do is press the pedal a couple inches and I go from 8th gear down to 4th or 5th gear. It's hard to determine on short test drives the responsiveness of a cars throttle or transmission since new cars are usually driven quite gently.

No. Not correct at all sir. That belong to America and Cadillac. The GS is probably more luxurious.
