Starfire Pearl and Rock Chips
So I've had my car for about a year now and have had the fun of putting about 13k on her already. Just went to go wash the car this weekend and noticed all of the lovely rock chips on the front bumper that made the paint basically chip right off... Now my front bumper looks like it has a bad case of acne...little black spots everywhere.
I guess Lexus paint is that soft it chips right off?

That just sucks. I debated a clear bra a year ago for my GS and decided to get it. Evidently, it was money we'll spent. Peculiar thing though, my RX450 is Starfire and there isn't a single chip on the car. Perhaps it's the shape of the GS or it's profile on the road.

Those clear bra's only hold up so long... I had a 2005 G35 coupe with a 3M clear bra on it that yellow'd after about 2 years.
Maybe now they've improved the technology and materials?

I, too, have similar damage to the paint on my car but, when you think about it, a sharp rock travelling at probably greater than 60 mph will "sand blast" through almost anything. It's the reason that some people never put their cars on the road at all.
Repaint and clear bra is the only solution I think.

I'm going on month 4 and noticed some light scratches on the front bumper. I don't remember hitting anything. It must have came from some road debri.

This is exactly why, I have the complete front (Full hood, Mirrors, Both Full Fenders, Headlights, Emblem, Bumper) in complete xpel ultimate protection. Also have the roof wrapped with vinyl to protect the roof.

I agree with everyone here, I hate rock chips
I beleive only the clear bra will help this issue. But not by much. Because the rock chip will also affect the clear bra but not the paint itself. However, you'll still see the rock chip on the clear bra if it's that bad....

OEM bra is pretty thin. I looked at it before I got my avery clear bra which is pretty thick. The bikini cut on it makes it easy on the eyes and most people don't even notice it there. So far so good; have had it for about half a year. It will definitely yellow, but it comes with a warranty against yellowing so I'll take advantage of that when the time comes.
I agree though that it would be hard to justify the cost of a clear bra for those who lease. I wouldn't do it. However, as a semi long term asset I think it's worth protecting. My 2 cents.
