F Sport Rim Repair
Has anyone with F Sport rims gotten them repaired from scratches? Is it difficult to color-match? Should I only be using Lexus to fix it?
Took my car to America's Tire to get tires changed this weekend (bald Bridgestone Potenza to new Michelin Super Sport). I watched them through the process of changing the tires to make sure they wouldn't scratch my car or rims. They were able to successfully change the right side tires with ease. Then they got to the left side, and that's where the problems began. First, they mixed up the front and rear rims and tires. They tried to force the smaller 235 tire onto the 265 rear rim and the larger 265 tire onto the 265 rim. Next, I saw one of the guys slip with the metal tool as he tried to fit the tire onto the rim. This worried me and I wanted to inspect when they were done. Of course, when they attempted to reinstall the wheels, it didn't fit. So they had to go back, rip off the tires again, and switch them. When they pulled it up, I tried to see any damage but couldn't see anything since the rim was caked with brake dust, fingerprints, dirt, and glue. Immediately when I got home, I saw a gash on the edge of the rim, probably where the guy slipped with the tool. Luckily, after filing a complaint on the website, the manager agreed to have it repaired by the company they use. This company requires America's Tire to take the wheel off, picked up by the company, they repair the gash/refinish it, mail it somewhere to get color-matched, and mount the wheel back on. Takes about 3-7 days.
Should I trust who they use or should I insist on having them use somewhere Lexus recommends?

I don't think you need to specify the service your local Lexus dealer uses because they all contract out the work anyway and I doubt the company would use someone unless they do quality work.
I had all four wheels on my '08 IS-F repaired (curb rash) and refinished by my local Lexus dealer who contracts with a company called Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists. AWRS used a mobile "shop" and did all four wheels in one day and, from what I understand, did not have to remove the tires from the wheels. The end results were remarkable.
Also, unless you live in a rural area that is not serviced by a mobile repair service, you shouldn't have to wait so long to get the repair done.
