Default Extended warranty options at +/- 36k miles...

I originally posted this on the LS460 forum because that happens to be the car in question. However, I also own a 2013 GS450h and I believe the same considerations apply. Thus, I would appreciate whatever light you folks can throw on the question. All responses are appreciated in advance.

So I'm just under 36k on my 2013 LS460 (and just under 20k on my 2013 GS450h) and I get a call from EasyCare flogging their warranty. The salesguy knew the name of my Lexus service advisor and urged me to contact him for a glowing recommendation of the EasyCare product - hmm.

At any rate, the deal is that EasyCare products go up in price after 36k miles (no diff from 36k + 1mile up to 50k miles) and they stop offering ALL 6 year coverage as well as ALL 120k mile coverage once I go over 36k. I'm not sure what Lexus factory warranty products are available although I believe EVERYTHING is available at any point up to and including 4 year/50k miles. In general, I would want to buy the $0 deductible, bumper-to-bumper, everything covered, maximum term (years), maximum mileage (120k?) warranty available PROVIDED it is both transferable to subsequent owners AND pro-rata refundable to me if the subsequent owner does not want the coverage.

So what do you guys think? I know Lexus factory has tightened up on factory warranty products available over the internet as of late. Is EasyCare a worthwhile product? Should I play the game to secure an out-of-state Lexus warranty? Should I just go ahead and pay the man at my local dealership? Any thoughts?

Can you leave the money in your pocket and pay as you go?

Hold up..

The Basic Factory Warranty (bumper to bumper) is 48 months or 50K miles.

The Powertrain Warranty is good for 72 months or 70K miles.

If u still want to get the extended warranty, make sure u read the fine print of what is covered and not.

How many years do you plan on keeping the vehicle?

On my last GS I got the extended warranty just before 50,000 miles. I got it from Lexus Financial through my dealer, it took the warranty to 125,000 and 7 years with $0 deductible. The cost in 2013 was $1,900 was was a good price for my piece of mind.

This warranty is from Lexus so all the details are with your car when you go to any Lexus dealer and it covers everything except the usual, tires, brakes, hoses, etc.

The really great thing is that last month I got a new GS and Lexus Financial sent me a pro-rated check for the unused portion of the warranty which was great.

If you do this please haggle with the dealer as they will start off at the mid two thousands, simply tell them you can get this from a Lexus dealer online for $1,900 which is true.

If you want an extended warranty why not get it from Lexus?

I was wondering is the extended warranty worth it? They sent me a last chance notice saying its almost over and if I go over 25k mileage the rate is going to change, so I was wondering is it worth extending the warranty? I was wondering I saw it last time there's a guy in clublexus sell extended warranty and its from the dealer is that correct?

That's not true! All the extended warranty only kick in after 50K miles or 4 years which ever come first. The rate should be the same. I bought Toyota extended warranty from out of state dealer for my Sienna last year when the odo hit 35K miles (36K miles and 3 years for Toyota). Toyota try to limit now so I'm not sure you could buy it from out of state dealer anymore. Try to contact the guys selling it and ask them.

Here in CZE you can buy extended warranty until regular is covering. But if you buy extended one in first six months it is cheaper (roughly 20%)...

Its not a "notice" its just an advertisement trying to get you to buy a warranty from a third party. I get them all the time.
