Just learned a new feature today about the BSM. I was on the freeway today and wanted to change lanes. I used the turn signal which has been adjusted for 7 blinks. Then I look at the side mirror and out of habit turned my head to look at left rear window.
At this point the BSM did not light up and while I turned to look did not see a car in my blindspot.

Well apparently there was a car two lanes away changed two lanes at a time and ended up In my blind spot. During this time I was unaware he was there because he was really speeding, sounded like he floored the pedal. But lucky out of habit I checked the side mirror again and saw the BSM flashing like crazy and the car made this warning beep at me and I cancelled my lane change situation.

The other car sped right past me at least 20mph faster than I was going and I was already going 5mph over 65mph speed limit.

So basically this BSM save me an accident that would have been my fault even though he was speeding.

I learned that BSM will light up and stay solid when it detects a vehicle in blind spot. But when you have the lane change signal it will flash and beep at you to tell you to stop. Also I loved the rear cross traffic feature too.

Interesting, I've never had mine beep but it will flash if it's solid and you put on your blinker.

I hate situations like that. Happened to me the day after I got my car, that's why I installed little mirrors in addition to BSM. BSM is good but my little mirrors will show me exactly what's behind me and what's coming at me.

This crap happens all the time when I drive in LA. Douchebags in exotic cars flying by 40mph faster than everyone else, shooting the gaps of space between cars.

Same thing has happened to me. I tried to switch lanes and a car had switched into my blind spot. The car made a beeping noise and the BSM was flashing. It's a great feature to have.

Interesting....maybe lexus did a minor update to the 2014 BSM? Alot of GS owners say theres dont beep.

My GS is a 2014 model.

What I didn't know they updated the BSM to have beeping sound. Thats good though this happened to me this past weekend. I came out and someone was changing lanes when I came out yet I got honked at. I did floor it but they were still angry at me........oh well

My 2013 doesn't beep either, maybe those equipped with PCS will beep?

It's probably associated with the rear cross traffic alert system on the '14s because the BSM doesn't beep as far as I know. That's pretty cool though. It's great to see these safety features actually saving us from potential disasters.

mine has never beeped either... but the RCT monitor does. BSM and the RCT are must have options.

Same here, in a 2014. Took a quick look at the manual and it also says the beeping only happens with the rear cross traffic alert. I wonder if there's an undocumented feature where it beeps if someone is quickly approaching your blind spot (rather than just being in it)?
