Default Question for a Lexus tech

I have just recently had to leave my GS 350 F sport with an out of town dealership for some repairs caused by a hit & run. The electric link assembly was replaced, as well as the two front rims and an alignment was performed. I'm being told that after the test drive we now have a steering trouble light on that they can't clear & now I need a new computer. I was told by a friend that after alignment work the computer often needs to be reset once the steering wheel is straight. Does this sound right ? Could they be missing some reset ? Should I be entitled to my old computer if they replace it.

Thanks in advance.

10yr Diagnostic Specialist here......sometimes the EMPS ECU is damaged electronically when there is a sudden impact / voltage spike in the steering rack circuit....I have replaced several.
