I was gonna pay lexus to do it, the first thing they asked was "have you driven off the lot?" when I said yes, they said flat out no cause of this same reason
That's crazy. Not sure why they would say that. We install film on cars all the time that have been driven. Film will actually smooth over most small chips as long as they aren't all the way through to the primer. But it can still be applied and will not cause a bubble. Most of the dealerships are the wrong place to get it as they do not have skilled installer, use sub par film, and charge a very high price for the work.

As far as self installs it is not recommended. 9 times out of 10 the customer will throw the film away and have to pay again for the material and then the labor. The vehicles Lexus makes are not the easiest in the world to cover but a skilled installer should easily do it without any issues.

Are you guys doing the full hood or just the front part? Any other opinions on trying to have it done after having some rock chips present?

Full hood, bumper, fenders, door handle, and side mirror covers

Edit: also I spoke to a neighbor who does vehicle wraps and he said he should be able to install it no problem even with imperfections. I got 100% money back satisfaction guaranty so im comfortable

Sorry but vinyl and polyurethane film are completely different. I have installed both and but now specialize in clear bras. I would never consider a vinyl installer an expert and I am amazed that he is offering you 100% of your money back if he messes it up. make sure to post some pics of the install.... and close up.
