While washing my car yesterday, I noticed a very soft, high pitched, waivering tone coming from inside the engine compartment near the front of the engine on the driver's side of the engine compartment. The high pitched tone was on most of the time when the hood was closed would come and go almost cyclically. I then opened the hood and listened closely to the sound. At that point, it started to become intermittent and turned on and off on a relatively cyclical rate. I thought it may have been a hissing Freon leak but was not sure as it sounded electronic possibly like a the very low level sound of an HID lamp but there were no lights on, etc.

I pulled the car into the garage after the wash and dry and the tone was gone for good. Has anyone experienced such a sound coming from the engine compartment?
