Had mine done. They had to do it twice since some of the angles are tricky.

The best way is to have a body shop spray tint them. You have to remove them, scuff and then spray. The only problem is finding somebody that will do it and do it right. Here is a link to my mod thread. Scroll down and you can see mine...

Have you tried talking to a business who wraps cars? I applied red tint to the amber portion of the tails and (albeit a small portion) it did stick and hold nicely.

You can have them color sanded and buffed to remove the paint...

does the shop you go to do PPF/clearbra or do they only mainly do window tinting?

Go to a shop that does more PPF work, and they definitely should be able to do tinted PPF on the taillights

Buy a 2nd set of taillights and spray tint them. You can always sell them later.

I as well have red outs on my amber portion of the tail lights. at first i put the "smoke" on the entire lens' but imo it looked just tacky, however the red outs made the car look uniform and imo better than factory. its your car, so do what you will but its really easy to have it done. i live in socal and only paid $20 for the red outs

I professionally tint and spray tails all the time, they come out sweet. Paint is the way to go.
