Default Abnormal LOW MPG

Hi, I want to share my abnormal low MPG for my 13 gs f sport awd. I live in alberta canada which has very cold weather here. I use my car for commuting to work so basically city driving. Right now, on board computer tells me average 18L/100km, which is about 13 mpg. I bought my car new on October and it was 15L/100km. I don't drive it very hard, usually in normal mode. Please share your opinion should I be concerned?

Do you do mostly long trips or short? Fuel usage of any car tends to be really high when the engine is cold, and for short trips the engine is cold most of the time, thus the fuel economy is terrible in the winter.

It's better for longer trips where most of the trip is spent with the engine warm, but will still be worse than the same trip in the summer.

I assume you meant low MPG in your subject line. If so, even for city driving, 13mpg is kinda low.

But from what I've read, it might be because of the different fuel blend that is used in winters

You're absolutely right. I've changed the title.

I don't know how reliable the official MPG listed by Lexus is, but I feel that I use way too much gas than supposed. Is there any Canadian owner that can share your average?
Thanks!

You should warm up the engine and drive for short trips. I experience better MPG with this way even with 5 min warming up - even in CA.

My G35 never got less than 17mpg city, running 91 or 93 octane, and my GS 350 F Sport started off getting 15-17mpg in the first month but once it passed the break-in period, it's been getting 18-19 city regularly. I do monkey with Eco, Normal, Sport and Sport+ at random so it's hard to quantify. Regardless, I don't see how you're getting 13mpg without a hole in the gas tank. Are you calculating it properly, i.e record total gallons put in at empty, resetting the trip meter, then recording the mileage at empty? I don't trust the screen OR the guesstimated mileage per tank that the dash predicts because it doesn't know how I'm going to drive on that tank, it's just guessing.

[QUOTE]on board computer tells me average 18L/100km[/QUOTE

That I have to admit that is low. I get around 12L/100km puttering around Oakville and Mississauga. That does includes bumper to bumper on the QEW and 403. But when the car is set on cruise at 120 kph I get 8.5l/100km and even have got 7.6l/100km from London to Oakville. That trip was 170 km and is downhill on the 401 and 403. I fill 92 from Sunoco (now Petro-Can) or Shell.

One thing that is abundantly clear, our gas consumption gets trashed every time I step on the accelerator.

Also, keep warm up under 3 minutes and since you are in Alberta use the block heater below -15, but you know that.

One more thing have the dealer check things, as 18 is low.

Oh BTW in the Toronto area we only hit -18 these last few years, no more -25 or -30 anymore. Global warming has been very apparent here :-)

So are you an Oilers or a Flames fan? Habs fan here.

Usually I wait one minute before driving. I'll try waiting longer.

Right now I've done 2500km on it. Everytime I refuel, it resets the number "MPG after refuel".

Interesting. I drove it on highway once and it showed about 10L/100Km. I expected a better economy than that

Yes, the temperature here is going crazy these days. It's -30C today and is gonna hit -40C tonight...

Alot of 4th Gen owners reported their mpg pretty low (worst than V8's) and adding on extreme cold will do it. -30 Celsius is Mind boggling..
