Okay, so the car is now repaired after being off the road for 20 days.

Firstly, it does appear to be Lexus glass (in that it says “Lexus” but I suppose the only way to confirm for certain is to test it with my glass analyzer machine; but to get a sample to fit in the machine of course I would need to smash the new windshield). From a driving and vision perspective it does seem the same as before.

The price in my case was $1260.30 plus tax (13% here in Ontario) broken down as follows: Glass $799.70; three mouldings at $74.90, $75.20 and $25.50; and installation $285.00.

They also replaced the front wiper inserts, replaced the battery (which I can write about in one of the dead battery threads if anyone’s interested) and programmed our key fobs to open all of the windows and the sunroof (when holding down the unlocking button key for more than two seconds). All of this additional work was covered under warranty.

They washed and vacuumed the car prior to the windshield replacement. I’d already spent a day hand-cleaning it inside and out so I guess they thought I didn’t do a good enough job. Anyway by the time they were done, they’d left it dirtier than it was before. They didn’t properly re-clean the interior after replacing the glass as there were shards of glass remaining on the dash around the Navigation screen and on the front passenger seat, so I cleaned up myself after I drove it home.

The following day it rained and while I was attending a conference, my wife was running her errands etc. She sends a text message that the wipers are making a funny noise. Then thirty minutes later she texts me again that the rear-view mirror has fallen off.

I tell her don’t call Lexus, don’t make an appointment, drive it back there immediately and tell them to SITFU, which they did in 10 minutes. Anyway, all’s good now.

For sure they put the new Lexus windshield on, and the cost was reasonable. Go enjoy her.
