His question was asked if it can play MP3 off of a DVD-R...and the answer is no, it cannot.

Thanks for the info guys. I was hoping for it to work on DVD because of the huge space to load mp3s on. I tested the thumb drive vs the CD and the CD was much louder and better quality. I guess I will have to go buy more CDs.

You might try a dvd. Best way to confirm is to test it.

I have a 64 G flash drive in my car. The music sounds great as good or better than a CD.

I buy my downloads from 7Digital and HD Tracks. May I suggest you consider buying from a vendor that puts a premium on source quality, 176kHz/24 bits music:

https://www.hdtracks.com/

Believe I don't work for these guys, nor do I have a career in the music industry.

How does this work? Can the Lexus stereo or ML pull hi-rez and process it directly off the flash? Does it have to be in DVD Audio format? Is there any technical docs on Lex digital music processing? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I don't think so, I have done it on a CD but it never worked on a flash driver. Unless there is a secret way, then I need to know.

In our cars, the audio settings (Bass, Treble, ect...) are controled and set differently per source. I would play with those....should all sound the same, if not better on USB devices

I adjusted the settings for the USB source and now it sounds wonderful. Thanks again for the info. I'm going to be using a USB from now on. Awesome!

Willkz, I copied MP3 and MP4 format folders onto a folders on the flash drive. I then plug the flash drive in the USB in the console box. Then bring up the USB on the screen, if you click the album or folder item the screen will display all your album or folders on the flash drive.

I have not tried FLAC format as yet, does anyone know if there are issues playing FLAC format on the ML system?

BTW, Arcade Fire's Suburbs Deluxe album bought from their own site sounds absolutely fabulous in the GS's ML system. That is because I am a "modern man".
