Default GS350 looks like a Camry?

Hello we recently purchased a 2013 RX350 and while in the showroom I was checking out the new GS. I like the car and am looking to purchase within the next several months. But everytime I look at the car I feel like it basically looks like a Camry SE. Im sure the two vehicles were likey built off similiar platfroms and don't get me wrong the Camry is a great car, I had one all through med school. But I really don't want to pay $50k for a car that doesn't stand out from the mid size economy car pack.

I really like the S4 and the BMW 5 series as well but the low reliability stear me away.

Any thoughts? Anything else I should be considering?

Can a Camry do this?

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...g-machine.html

And to answer your question. No the GS is a completely different platform from the Camry.

The Camry is front wheel drive and shares a platform with the Lexus ES. The GS is rear wheel drive platform and designed to outhandle the German sports sedans.

Currently, it is arguably the best handling car in its segment, a segment comprising competitors like Mercedes E Class, BMW 5 series, Audi A6, Jaguar XF and Infiniti M. An F-Sport package equipped GS350 is faster on Edmund's slalom test circuit than even a BMW M5 even though it has only 306hp compared to the M5's 560hp.

That's how world-class the GS chassis is. A Camry derived platform definitely won't be performing such giant killing feats.

I don't see how it looks like a Camry. As a matter of fact I was talking with my BMW enthusiast coworker about how the previous GS looked like a Camry and how the new one finally did not. She hates Lexus too, so for her to say that is a pretty big deal.

You should drive it.

The Camry and GS do not have anything in common, other than they are all under Toyota. The Camry is front wheel drive car, how can a rear wheel drive GS share platforms with Camry? The GS however, does share its platform, but with Lexus IS, and that's about it.

Perhaps when you were creating this thread you were thinking of the Lexus ES? Yes, that car is in fact built off Toyota Avalon, and the previous generations used to share platforms with Camry.

The GS is a midsize sport sedan, it has nothing to do with economy. I still think that you are referring to Lexus ES, and keeps mentioning the GS

I don't believe the GS looks like a Camry(My son owns a Camry XLE) but I also agree that the chasis and handling is sweet. I like the AWD GS. I also agree with you Doc that the styling of the GS doesn't really stand out from the GS competitors.

You guys seriously think the 5 series looks better than GS ? The 5 without the M sport package looks ugly to me compared to the GS

I feel the 5 Series has a much nicer all around exterior but the GS interior and better pricing won me over.

I have no earthly idea how anyone could see a GS and think Camry. They both have 4 wheels and that's all I see in common. I've never heard any GS being accused of looking like a Camry.

You want similar the accord and Acura rlx look nearly identical.

For me, at a quick glance, I confuse the Camry with the LS. Only after a double-look I realize what car it actually is.
