I just had my 5k service done and had to jump start my battery 2x within the past month for my GS350 that is just my weekend driver. Turns out that I had a bad cell in the battery and Lexus dealer swapped it out with a Lexus 84-month battery. Charging system checked out aok. Perhaps Lexus got a bad batch of batteries for the OEM one that came with the car?

Someone on the Battery Dead thread posted the oem battery is a $800-$1000 Panasonic and the replacement isn't a Panasonic.
I don't know why the OEM Panasonic battery is $800-$1000 (if true) but I'd want what came with the car vs a replacement Costco type ordinary $75 battery.

Interesting that Lexus puts in a regular battery and not the Panasonic that was in the GS.

If my OEM battery dies out of warranty, I'm going to install an Optima instead. Maybe Lexus should retrofit all the GS models with the Optima YellowTop battery since it can handle frequent discharges.

Does the OEM Panasonic battery have to be "registered" with the car's computer to maintain a correct rate of charging. This is the case with the BMW's and it means buying "their" very expensive battery plus another couple hundred to get it registered to the car. If this is not the case with Lexus, I would think any after market battery would work fine.
The "In-Store" price for the OEM battery is $1193.94 Is that a rip-off or am I just not up-to-date on the price of batteries?

No one ever buys the exact OEM battery from the Lexus parts counter....
Those batteries are what they instal at the factory.. (made by Panasonic)
Most Lexus Dealerships carry the OEM equivalent replacements on the shelf...
Here in SoCal, Interstate has a contract with most (if not all) local dealerships.. So if you buy one at the dealership, you’re getting an "aftermarket replacement" for the known going rates similar to what’s found at AutoZone, Sears or any other decent battery retailer...
No point in buying the same factory fitted Panasonic, since it will keep occurring..

The OEM Panasonic batteries have a history of "sucking".. to say the least..

Anyone have issues with jump starting 2013 GS? Woke up this morning and my car won't start no power. Tried to jump start my car and still no luck. Anyone know if any special procedures are required?
