Default a couple of questions with rims and springs

I have a AWD F-sports. The stock rims are 19x8. If I get a set of 19x9 rims, will it cause any issues such as rubbing? or should I stick with 19x8? It seems that most aftermarket rims are all 19x9s so I thought I'd ask.

I plan on lowering the car as well but I haven't decided on whether or not to go with the full coilover system or just the springs (if it ever gets released).

I have been emailing with a tech at a shop discussing the installation of a coilover system:

"Camber is NOT adjustable and rear toe is only minutely adjustable without
replacement parts so, for the time being, you may want to consider raising
the suspension until they come out with adjustable ball joints, upper/lower
control arms etc.

Any time you change ride height, camber and caster angles are effected.
Alignments are necessary every time you adjust the height. Height adjustment
is accomplished by first setting spring preload (likely to zero) then
loosening the lock nut and turning the strut cylinder to a desired amount.
Sometimes it takes some trial and error to get the fronts and rears to sit
at exactly the same height once the car is on the ground.

There is also an issue with the height control sensors on your vehicle. The
car will want to raise the headlights to the sky and you will have a warning
light on in the instrument cluster if this is not addressed. We will have to
come up with a fix for this problem. We have taken care of this problem in
the past on the IS-F but you have a different vehicle that is likely similar
but not the same.

Your vehicle also has automatic dampening on the factory shocks as well as
active suspension stabilization. We will need to do A LOT of research to
figure out what to do about this. You will have a check engine light and no
ABS if this is left without consideration.

Coilover installation labor time is as follows:
Front-2.8
Rear-3.0
Total $580.00
This includes installation, setting spring preload, ride height & desired
feel. This will not include addressing the height control sensors, automatic
dampening or active stabilizer. "

Anyone agree/disagree with what the tech is saying? I thought it was a simple matter of getting the coilover system in, drive about 1000 miles and get an alignment. I didn't think of the other issues that was brought up with height control sensors, no ABS?!

height control sensor is true, most of the time you just adjust the leveling arm on the rear wheel (driver rear unless lexus has changed it), 10 mins work.

the active suspension is true too, but you will just lose the dampening adjustment. unless the 4gs f sport has something more fancy and different, i don't see how it will trigger check engine light and abs. on previous lexus, you do that and you just lose the avs, that's it, you don't get any warning lights.

alignment is correct but that's just the price you pay for lowering your car. just adjust to your liking, drive for a while, and do alignment to the best settings they can get (if they are a good shop)

and man, 580 bucks to install coilovers?!

The headlights will actually point lower when the car is lowered. The car thinks it must compensate for heavy load in the trunk.

My guess is the CEL will only come on if the actuators on the shocks are not electrically connected to the harness.

Setting up coil overs do take a bit of trial and error though.

not really. it depends on how much you lower the front and rear respectively. if one lowers the front and rear the exact same amount, the headlight will point at the same angle (except now vertically lower). it front is lowered more (likely because front wheel gap larger), headlights will point higher. if lower rear more, point lower.

for price, very possible it varies a lot in different regions. here in socal i would say 200 is on the high side but probably reasonable if installation is a bit tough.

The headlights will still point lower. The ride height sensor is only located at the rear of the car. My last car had the same issue. The fix was easy .. the dealer re-zeroed the sensor using software. Not sure if the GS can be re-zeroed the same way though.

holy snaps , 580 to install coils. If you were near me I'd do it for 100 (and I'll do it in an hour and a half to two) with the help of someone just helping out on the other side.

That said, 19x9 should be fine. the real question is what offset you would run, as that creates a problem.

I is there a procedure to adjust the height control sensor? I would like to get my hands on a copy.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sus...be-nf210s.html

you can read up the details and post #37, #42, #43, #47, #48, #54

Looks like you need to put it in position C.

I'm still waiting to see if the height sensor is adjustable or not.

I can say from my 3GS with active suspension it will lower the headlights as someone stated. Not really a problem as dealer adjusted mine. You would need to get an alignment. I'm also waiting and was wondering the same thing about the wheels, as I want to stagger my rear wheels. I recall them saying that the system is a little different than the one in the 3GS is does more, can't find the video on it. $580 is really high I paid $250 and this is what I was quoted for the new GS when the springs come in. Keep us posted on the wheels as I want to really do those as well.
