Default We Don't Have Run-flats Anymore!

Took me a while to find out that we don't have run-flats on these cars anymore, I thought these were run-flats but as I look up the tires we have none come with run-flats. Has anyone gotten run-flats, I mean I'm happy we don't I just don't understand why we still have a small spare still vs a full-size.

when i bought the SP F Sport, the FM at my dealer said that the car had RF tires, i knew they weren't RFs, so i left it at that. i asked about a FS spare and was told we had a donut and that the GS never had a FS spare tire. i know the ES, LS have FS spares. i for one am glad we don't have RF tires, but i'm not glad that we don't have FS spares. i believe the issue with the trunk space and or weight reduction is why we have donuts.

Yes, run flats are harsh, noisy, and expensive

Yeah but still those Bridgestone el400-02 are crap and feel like the run flats I had on my BMWs.

Yes I agree they are crap, but I'm stuck with them until May. I'm glad we don't have RF but I know the 2nd gen GS's came with full size tires and from the 3GS I have only mini tires.

It doesn't matter if it comes with RF. We are going to change them out with bigger rims anyway

Very happy we don't have runflats, and luckily I have the Michelins.

As for the spare, I think the issue is that as wheels get larger diameter and width it gets harder to engineer the space into the trunk to store them. Think about how wide the GS' wheels are and imagine what having to store one under the trunk floor would do to trunk space, not to mention weight.

Its not just a Lexus thing, you see fewer and fewer full sized spares for that reason.

Absolutely agree. I had an SC430 with runflats, and they made the ride rough and the handling poor. I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Sports and kept a can of Fix-a-Flat in my trunk. Even that was preferable to enduring the harsh ride of the runflats. And yes, with 19" and even 20" wheels now showing up on cars there is no way to make the room needed for a full-size spare.
