Am I the only one that thinks the Mark Levinson system in our car sucks?

I agree with something PeteHarvey said.
The ML sounds great, if not spectacular, for classical music. But it's not quite as good for pop music in general. Since I like both types of music equally, I find myself listening to classical music 90% of the time...
Also, in the discussion of other systems, nobody mentioned Burmeister (in new Porsches, for example), which is supposed to blow away the competition....

I still miss the Nakamichi system my dad had in his 98 LS.

My favorite system to date is the B&O system in the Audi Q7. This system took my breathe away. I also had a B&O system in my Audi Q5. Un fortunately it was the best part of that SUV so I sold it.

I've never heard the B&O system in an Audi...it sure is an expensive option, and B&O stuff in the real world has always struck me as way more expensive than its worth. Sort of like Bose, but to a whole other level.

I actually think its like $9k in the A8 isn't it? $6k in the A6.
Then again I think the base system in the GS sounds great, so apparently I'm not too great a judge LOL

Maybe it was in a package or something I was looking at...

I tweaked the simplified equalizer on my standard audio system and I think it sounds fine. I've had multiple extensive aftermarket audio systems in the past including two amps, two subwoofers, etc. (stuff that made the body panels flex), but I think the modern OEM automotive audio systems aren't nearly as bad as they had been in the past. Then again, maybe I'm no longer a connoisseur...

i really want to hear the high end B & O in the A6 and A8. the one is the S5 isn't as good as the standalone B & O in the A6 and A8, a member here had an S5 before and said the lexus ML sounds better.
with that said, i was in my cousins 335is with the harmon kardon upgraded audio, i think it costs about $950, 11 speakers. the bmw HK puts a sub under each front seat, so definitely had more bass than our system, but it wasn't as clear and loud. he turned it up all the way and it was loud, but our system goes louder.
driving to work this morning, i turned up the system all the way to 50, ASL/surround both off, and really loved the clarity and punchines of the system. does it need more bass? maybe a little, but i love the clarity of the system, you can definitely tell it has 17 speakers.

Most high-end factory systems are exquisite in sound separation and quality (Audi's B&O in A8 is a complete eargasm!).
But I haven't heard one that has enough bass for me. So, I will always have to add an aftermarket amp and sub. And I am OK with that. I'd rather add those elements myself anyway.
Listening to the ML in the 4GS, it sounded delicate and rich when listening to some of my favorite acoustic and jazz tracks. I felt like I was in the studio with the artist. But for club and hiphop tracks, still not enough bass, which I expected.

I went and checked the speakers prices again on sewell. These speakers are expensive, major markup... here is an article I found. Haven't read it yet.

also, for audiophiles, EQ has to be flat, so i don't think the lack of EQ is an issue.
