Default Am I the only one that thinks the Mark Levinson system in our car sucks?

So I listened to a lot of nice car stereo systems in my time and I'm not very impressed with the Mark Levinson system that is in our cars. Am I only one that feels this way? Maybe I just don't have the system adjusted right? One huge complaint I have is the absence of an adjustable EQ. No matter how much I try to adjust the bass, midrange and treble I just can't find a sweet spot.

If any of you agree with me, what have you done to resolve the problem. For example have you added anything to the system changed out your speakers etc.

By the way, I even had a sound engineer get into my car to confirm that I wasn't crazy.

What do you guys think???

I had ML in a '08 GS and didn't think it was great then either.
Sounds the best in a LS460.

Mark Levinson audio systems are designed for audiophiles; that is, true purists.
The sound is clean and pure, without artificial boosting of the bass or treble.
The object of purists is to reproduce the sound 100% exactly as it sound originally, without change/alteration.
Most audiophiles listen with no equalizer, or with the equalizer flat [off].
Audiophiles want clarity and definition, to be able to distinguish the harp, from the flute, from the cymbals etc.
It is especially good for classical music.

However, most ordinary people are into pop music, so they want an artificial big boomy bass, which is something that the Mark Levinson has not really been designed for.
To get this artificial big boomy bass for conventional pop music, best to replace the speakers first, then add a powerful power amp into the boot.

A lot of modern hi-fi systems also have 3D circuitry, for 3D sound effects, and this is also great for listening to conventional pop music.
On the otherhand, audiophiles do not like artificial 3D sound effects; they like to listen to music purely as it was originally produced...

Love my ML.

What source are you using? XM for example. Crap in Crap out.

I also turned surround and sound leveling off. I tried setting everything to the center too. Again, it doesn't sound right.

As far as the music I listen to, rock ( Rush, Pink Floyd ), alternative ( 311, Killers, Coldplay ), and when I'm feeling like I need some caffeine in my system House, Techno, Trance.

Again all types don't sound right. I wonder if there's something wrong with my system?

Hmmm???

Could be. I listen to USB and BT as well. All types of music. I have each input set to surround "off", leveling "off" and the treble, mids, and bass to 2 notches above center.

Mine sounds great.

Did you adjust all inputs? They are all separate. For example. Changing BT doesn't change USB. I'm sure you did. Just checking.

The only complain for my ML is making the car rattle in some area at high volume.

Have ML in 3GS & 4GS. Love it. Sound clear and clean than Bose in my G37 or Harman Kardon in my cousin Benz.

I use BT & USB.

The ML system sounds great. Sounds much better than the Bang & Olufson system that was in the Audi S5 that I traded in. I have NO COMPLAINTS.

Maybe you are not the only one, but your are certainly one of a few.

The ML system in the 3GS wasn't very good. I test drove it twice and brough my iPod and a couple of DVD-A discs with me. Not impressed. 4GS is a whole different ball game.

I'm taking my GS in this weekend for my 5k service and I think that I'll casually inquire about it.
