I don't really know if the device has to be on to be detected. In the province of Ontario the posted speed limit on 400 series highways among others is 100 km/h, but the O.P.P. will let you do 120 km/h which is a tick under 75 mph. I have to admit many of us do 130 to 140 km/h which is 80 to 87 mph but you do it at your own risk.

In other parts of the country the speed limits are even higher, like the autoroutes in Quebec and the Trans Canada in the maritime provinces.

If I want to use rain sensor, is it on left or right (from inside of car)? There are two "caps". The one on the left is ventilated.

The wires now run under the dash there should be a platic panel with 3 screws below the driver knee airbag thats where i tucked the wires and then mounted my smart cord display

this is the finished product

when the radar goes off i can simply reach down and press the mute button. the green status light does stay on but thats normal and when im driving i dont notice the light until i look down at the parking brake
Nice install but long reach. Did you think about putting it between dash and console?

i feel so out of place reading a US forum..

the speed limit in Singapore is 90km/h on the free way and it is illegal to install a radar detector.

you guys have all the toys!!!

Next week i'm planning on getting my Beltronics STiR plus installed and laser interceptors installed..
The question is where to put the controls and display.

There are three things that need be mounted inside the car, a control panel for the Beltronics and a small display. The laser interceptors has an on/off switch.

I was thinking of mounting the display on top of the rearview mirror and running the wires up through the headliner. Now for the controls I was thinking on the panel where the BSM/Trac buttons are, mount the on/off switch for the Laser interceptors in that space on the right. Then mounting the controls for the STIR underneath the light dimmer is for the dash, similar to were the controls are for HUD...

Thoughts? Any other suggestions...
Thanks,
Josh

If I want a decent radar detector for highway driving only what do you recommend? Are any of the battery units good enough for highway use?

Finally, if I get a window unit who should I pay to hard wire it like in this thread? I can't do the project. Dealer or private shop?

What about best buy installing the Escort 9500?

Thank you. Is the solo S3 good enough? I like the blendmount. $90 and a perfect install.
If I buy the escort 9500 or valentine V1 I would need to hire sometime to wiretap the device into the car. I would still use the blendmount.

Any comments about the Solo S3 for highway driving vs the additional expese of my getting the 9500 installed?

Finally, which is the better detector, V1 or Escort 9500?

Not really the comparison du jour. V1 vs. Redline is the battle for now, but Escort has a digital unit in development which should revolutionize detection compared to today's superhet analogs. If you can find a used Redline in good shape on the bay, Escort will upgrade it at no charge beyond shipping to be Band Segmentation and RDR programmable. If you need further info, try radardetectorforum.org. Good luck.

Haven't had much experience with the battery units but I would recommend the wired ones, just install it and forget about it. There's a reason why all the good ones are not on battery.

I would highly advise you against going to best buy for the install, I have seen some serious hackjobs from that place. You say you can't do it yourself but it's really not that hard, nobody is gonna do the job like you would on your own car. If you must though, I would say go to a reputable private shop.

Is the Blendmount a better mount for the GS 350?
