Default Beware... aluminum trim dents easily

I only have 4300 miles on my car and I'm a fanatic about taking care of it, but last weekend I noticed a small dent in the aluminum on the lid over the cupholders. I also have 2 "nicks" in the aluminum trim on the drivers door (I can only guess from my watch). I love the aluminum trim in the F Sport, but it really is vulnerable to dents. Not sure if Lexus will switch the aluminum in the next model (maybe the same as in the LS F-Sport) but it will be interesting to see.

I had an '08 Infiniti M35 Sport with aluminum all over it and never got a dent.

When I bought my car the aluminum had a dent on the passenger side of the dash. The aluminum does seem very thin to me. This is a bummer considering how nice the piece around the CD player is. If they used the same aluminum as the CD player only slightly thinner we wouldn't have problems with denting.

I brought by seatbelt level down from the top and it has likely prevented future dents on the aluminum trim.

Isn't the piece around the CD player silver-painted plastic? Also, I understand Lexus was really trying to keep the weight down when they designed the 4GS. Maybe the thin aluminum was designed to contribute to that? If so, I'd put up with the extra weight of more substantial trim. If they have to do enough comp replacements, I bet the trim will change in the next model year.

Where are your dents? Did they show up after you took delivery? And Lexus is replacing free of charge?

Yes I noticed it after 4-5 months of ownership and told the service manager whom spoke to the chief service consultant whom was my previous service advisor in the past and he understood that this should happened and told me they will replace them free of charge one time only. If it happens again I will pay for a new one if I need one.

actually D, the piece around the CD player is made from one piece of aluminum ingot, it is definitely not plastic. i feel you though... i'm still plucking interior parts with my finger asking myself if it's real.
