Default 2013 GS 350 F-Sport Outhandles 2013 BMW M5 ? Discuss

Top-of-the-range Supersedan from the makers of "The Ultimate Driving Machine" vs a mainstream family sedan from little old Lexus

As tested by Insideline :

2013 BMW M5 :

Slalom, 6 x 100 ft. (mph) 68.9
Slalom, 6 x 100 ft. (mph) 67.6 ESC ON

2013 GS 350 F-Sport :

Slalom, 6 x 100 ft. (mph) 69.7
Slalom, 6 x 100 ft. (mph) 67.7 ESC ON

( Note that the M5 has 260hp more horsepower and 223 lb-ft more torque.)

The M5 is probably faster in most real-world situations and few people autocross the M5 or use such a small handling circuit when tracking their M5 but it is very informative about the loss of dexterity and nimbleness of the current F10 M5 when compared to the previous generation. I blame the 400lbs weight gain.

This sentence from the Insideline M5 review sums it up perfectly:
If this were an M7 not an M5, no doubt we'd be telling you this is the world's greatest 7 Series — which is exactly what it feels like.

Funny, I was noticing the same things yesterday.
And to add to that, the GS F-Sport is also zippier than the Panamera Turbo S (IL slalom speed 68.9).

Weight apparently is a major factor for the slalom since the IS250 F-Sport (71.0) is faster than an 2011 IS-F (69.7).

Anyway, the GS F-sport is one brilliant handler! Easily best in class.

Insideline was "underwhelmed" by the latest M5. Cue the GS F!

lot of reviewers have been underwhelmed by the new 5, it got pretty bloated. Its more like a small 7 now than a big 3

I am so glad Lexus engineers/designers elected to go for agility, subtlety, and lightness in the 4GS. The 5 represents the prevailing trend to go very heavy and lose the formula for what makes driving fun.

Looking at Insideline's other tests, the GS350 F-Sport's slalom speed also beats the current F30 328i and even the 2011 M3 coupe.

Amazing that it can outhandle cars one size smaller and at least 300lbs lighter.

Makes us GS Owners smart and savy when it comes to automobiles. My only real complaint with the car is that I don't get to drive it as much as I'd like.

I think the 4th gen GS is often under estimated by many it's a phenomenal car all around.

I've driven a vast array of new vehicles, coupes, sedans, suvs, sports cars, exotics, etc etc the last few months and the GS is simply one of the best handling and driving cars on the road today AT ANY PRICE POINT. It seriously is that good, the engineers should get free beer for life.

Cars like the GS show who really are enthusiasts b/c Lexus of all companies has one of the best driving cars on the road and its not being praised and shouted out by everyone. Its pathetic and a shame. This car should be on everyones buying/driving list. Instead people now focus on things like tailight design and missing fog lamps.

Has anyone here driven the living snot out the car? I have. Even the local Infiniit G37 crew saw me whipping them a new one left and right at excessive speeds on the highway. The car is confidence inspiring. I plan to track it very soon with video in Miami and Cali! I've driven with enough people here and they will tell you I will take a car through its paces.

+1 couldn't have said it better.. I romp on it every chance I can get. It has such amazing handling. I am sorry to see my IS die such a brutal death, but it sacrified itself to save me and put me into the new GS.

Reading this brings a smile to my face, but then so does driving my GS F-Sport! Feels good to have such a capable car that should also be relatively trouble-free in the long term. Thank you, Lexus!

My wife has taken our GS and given me her BMW, which is actually a good thing. The GS is such a temptress that I'm genuinely afraid it's going to get me in trouble. And I just have the Luxury package.

a friend of mine who loves beamers says the current 5 series handles very sloppy compared to prior 5 series.
