i don't own any 3rd or 4th gen GS but i have always wondered why Lexus decided to drop the V8. You would think that the 4th gen 350 simply replace the 3rd gen 350 and so forth, but how come there is no 4th gen 460???

I heard that the 4th gen 350 is as fast as the 3rd gen 460. How is that possible?

0-60 for the 4th gen 350 is 5.5 sec, right?

I think they dropped the V8 because there wasn't enough of a distinction in real-world driving (performance or efficiency) to justify the premium in price. That is my theory anyway.

And yes, 0-60 is in the middle of the 5 second range.

^ the 3rd gen 350 was around 6.5 in the 0-60. The 460 was around 5.4

How did the same engine from the 350 3gs manage to shave off 1 sec in the 4gs 350? did the 4gs get a new transmission?

Yes in 2014 the GS (RWD only) got a new 8 speed, but lexus claims 0-60 is nearly identical.

And if you guys wander why they dropped the V8, you should check out the 4Runner forums, they are furious that toyota dropped the V8 there too.

The new one with the 8 speed is probably as fast from a dead stop through the gears. A kick down from many speeds the 2010 I had was much more responsive than the new one. They really need to recalibrate the new 8 speed.

I have read this before, you're not the only one that feels this way... But I swear to you my 8 speed is decently responsive and always willing to kick down. When it was new, mine was fairly hesitant but now it's "smart" I guess. The only thing I can think of, that's not really an issue, is if you're going to pass and you floor it quickly there are times it hesitates or drops a few gears then another but it doesn't always do it.

The 8 speed in the 4GS in manual mode really does shift fast from a stop. I've never had a car that shifts this fast.

I have noticed that manual mode is very impressive. It reminds me of an old Nissan 350Z that I use to throw around. It is really fun, and it impresses me every time. Usually manual mode isn't so "manual" and screws me up so I just leave it in D, but the GS is great!

At some speeds ours gets it right. But I'd say more often than not it does not. My 2010 always felt responsive and faster than 303 hp to me.

I don't have any experience with the old transmission, but I do recognize that I experience some lag or gear searching. I'm hoping that as the ecu learns my driving style that this will change and it will adapt.

It responds good when I least expect it and it won't respond when I really needed. lol

But I've been driving hard and do a lot of revvings and it seems to wake the ECU up and help it to responds faster.

If I drive slow this thing falls asleep.

Sold a '10 GSh to purchase a '13 GSh. Not even close in my opinion. Loved the '10, and equally love the '13. But there are many things already covered here that separate the two. What I am surprised about, is that those who have had a 3G and a 4G GSh have not mentioned the improved fuel mileage (unless I missed it being mentioned). Never in my day would I have imagined I'd have a car with this much power get over 500 miles to a tank. And that is every tank. And the fuel tanks on this car are +/- 17 gallons.

How do u like the CVT on the GSh? The CVT on my Accord is horrible. From a dig that car is powerless but highway passing is pretty good.
