Default 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport recalled for steering problem

http://www.torquenews.com/1081/2013-...eering-problem

Lexus has announced a voluntary recall of certain 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport RWD vehicles. Lexus’ press release indicates that some GS 350 F Sport models may contain a steering defect in which the wheel may become off-centered. This defect will only demonstrate itself upon restarting the vehicle immediately after it is parked. The safety recall, which involves approximately 650 cars, is being administered in order to update the Variable Gear Ratio (VGRS) and electronic control unit (ECU) calibration of affected vehicles. The luxury automaker uncovered the defect, prompting them to file a Defect Information Report (DIR) with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive a safety recall notice beginning in June 2012. Faulty steering systems will receive an upgrade, free of charge. The repair takes roughly 30 minutes, according to Lexus. Customers that wish to find out more information before June may contact Lexus Customer Service at 1-800-255-3987. Lexus owners can also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov.

Interesting. When I picked up my car I noticed that the steering wheel was off centered just slightly. Just barely, but I notice stuff like that. I figured it was the alignment. When I told the sales rep in the passenger seat he told me to schedule an appointment to get it fixed. Alignment is covered by Lexus for a year.

Rule of thumb: Always buy the 2nd year car when a new model come outs unless you gotta have it Now.

I usually go by that rule of thumb, but I just had to have it. I picked up my 2013 GS 350 F Sport when they first came out in Feb.

+2 But, your honor, I couldn't wait! I don't have an "F" so probably not affected.

I have a service visit Saturday (the 30 day / 1000 mile checkup) in any event I called the Lexus Customer Service number and asked them to run my VIN for the recall and I'm not on the list. But my VIN is high 2000 so I wonder if it was very early units and they caught it and have since corrected it in manufacturing and are just now getting around to going back to fix the ones that slipped through.

Maybe if anyone gets the recall notice can tell us if their VIN is under or over the 1000 mark or someone with a VIN under 1000 could call the 800 number and ask if they are effected.

IMO, this recall is minor.

The saying never buy the first year of a new design is BS. I had an 07 GS3, 2nd year of new design, and still had a bunch of issues with rattles and recalls including: fuel rail, cam covers, rear brakes, etc.

So far so good with the new GS4.......knock on wood :-)

Well, maybe in your case (3Gen GS) but most times the rule of thumb stands. I remember my friend bought the 1998 2GS redesign, he had some issues with a few minor things like this 4GS. I resisted, oh so hard to resist but i waited one year for my '99 GS4, and I'm glad i did, I've not had one lick of issue with my GS400 even after modding it, still purrs like day one.

Vehicle R&D and manufacturing has come a long way since 1998.
