Default dynamic rear steer being discontinued ALREADY!? (update: apparently not - yay)

is this true? why would an option be discontinued right as the car comes on the market? and why would an option that really gives the GS an edge in handling be discontinued, even if it is 'expensive'?

The question should be where did you here such a rumor? I just checked with the Lexus corporate guys on the GS launch team and they said no.

Lexus USA ordered lots of rear steer cars for the first build.... when they thought it was going to be a $750 option... now that it turns out to be around $1400, they will not have as many in the next build run, but it will be available.

There has been some discussion if it will be offered on the hybrid... there is some concern if the hybrid folks will be interested in a $1400 option as the non-rear steer cars already handle very well as it is... and hybrids, although the most powerful of the GS's, are normally not purchased by folks who want to drive aggressively....

why would you even want this?

Another one of those 'options' that takes people away from, you know, using brains whilst operating a car...

I highly recommend this option. I have it on my BMW and it has several benefits:

1) Gives the car a very tight turning radius. In my case my 550i has a tighter turning radius than a 3 series. This is great in city driving and parking lots.

2) When driving on city streets, the steering response is sharper which is great for cutting through traffic.

3) At highway speed when you are doing lane changes the car is much more stable - rear steering reduces body roll because both wheels turn in same direction at these higher speeds.

4) Enables higher absolute cornering speeds during high speed cornering because turning both wheels in same direction reduces the centripetal force on the tires.

?! seriously do you know how this works and the benefits? this is like you question why even bother to have sway bars in cars.

rear steering is a fantastic handling feature. mind you, nissan gtr way back in the 90s, it already had rear steering for incredible handling (on top of other things).

as said 3-4 posts above it is probably misinformation, i see in some regions they are already packing into F-Sport Plus package and thats probably what rest will do as well.

The first build order for the US had many DRS sport+ packages.... How common it will be going forward will probably depend on how many folks buy it..

Well said.

I do like the LDH w/Rear Steer package a lot, but the stock GS handling dynamics are by far the best of most (not all) Lexus cars to date but you will have increased tire wear in the rear. If you plan to lower it, put larger wheels/tires on it, you're likely to cause increased/abnormal wear on the rear steering components. It can get pricey.
