Default Are there significant differences in Euro vs U.S. hp & drive modes for new GS 450h?

Reading and comparing the Lexus USA Newsroom ( http://pressroom.toyota.com/releases...motor+show.htm ) and Toyota Global Newsroom ( http://www2.toyota.co.jp/en/news/feature/20110913.html ) press releases for the next-gen Lexus GS 450h, two important differences jumped out at me:

NORTH AMERICAN SPEC:
338 hp
5 Drive Modes: Normal, Eco, Sport S, Sport S+ and EV

EUROPEAN SPEC:
290 hp (213 kW)
3 Drive Modes: Eco, Sport S, Sport S+

So, what are we looking at here? Totally different tuning for each market? Europe using Eco Mode figures vs the U.S. using Sport S+ mode figures? An error in somebody's numbers?

Discuss...

290 must be the engine output. Combined total hybrid output should be the same. But Lexus UK usually gets like 3 more horsepower for some reason

These pressrom docs seem to be littered with TYPO's lately...

Just like the IS-F's, which show 10-Spoke Asymmetrical wheels from 2008-2012 in the USA..
(Looked back at all the pressroom PDF's )

I think you nailed it, actually. I totally forgot about the different engine/motor/combined hybrid horsepower figures. I just checked the detailed 2011 GS 450h specs ( http://pressroom.toyota.com/article_...rticle_id=2673 ) and, sure enough, they list 292 hp engine-only and 340 hp total system power, so, yeah, Europe/Japan are using the engine-only output figure in the Global news release, while the U.S. posted the maximum total system power numbers (minus two horsepower for 2013 in either case, but, hey, it's close enough).
