Update: Lexus files patent for GS-F
http://lexusenthusiast.com/2013/03/2...ormance-sedan/

Lexus GS chief engineer states they are working on the next F model but the v8 is out of question, a modified v10 is possible and hybrid is "one option" (sounds like the could possibly be hybrid and non hybrid GS-Fs).

Guys, when the chief engineer says "our biggest weapon is hybrid" that shows confidence in the idea and when Lexus is confident, we are happy.

V10 under consideration for Lexus GS-F
Words - Joshua Dowling
Next generation sports sedan could adopt supercar engine, or hybrid power
Lexus is considering adopting the V10 engine from its LF-A supercar (pictured) to create its first mid-size sports sedan. And, following customer feedback, the conservative Japanese maker may also introduce the dramatic blacked out grille of the show-car on a mid-life update.

“We are planning the next generation F model ... we do have some plans, but we cannot tell you detail right now,” the chief engineer of the new generation Lexus GS, Yoshihiko Kanamori, told Australian media at the unveiling of the GS350 in Pebble Beach on the California Coast overnight.

When asked if the V10 from the LF-A supercar would be suitable – given that it has relatively low torque output of 480Nm and the GS sedan is 150kg heavier than the sports car, Kanamori, speaking through his product planning colleague, Yohei Saiki, said: “Of course we cannot adopt the V10 as it is for the LFA. If we decided we should adopt the V10, we can modify.”

He also said petrol-electric hybrid power “should be one option”.

“Our biggest weapon is hybrid,” Kanamori said, given that Lexus was a pioneer of the technology in the luxury sedan segment.

Kanamori also confirmed that the V8 was dead, for now.

“We have no plan now [to re-introduce a V8], it depends on market conditions,” he said, adding that the next generation hybrid has better driving performance than the current V8.

When asked if the menacing, black ‘shockwave’ grille that helped the GS concept car win design awards would appear on future models, Kanamori said: “We should evolve [the design], yes.”

If anybody comes across any new GS-F news, let's keep this thread updated and keep at GS-F discussions here.

the V8 model is dead, but that doesn't rule out the V8 for the GS F ......... right?

yea we have no idea what context he was speaking in when he said the v8 was a goner, they could've been on topic of GS-F or not.

I think the chief engineer is being very coy. No way will they use the LFA's V10, no matter how modified. The LFA's V10 alone costs as much as a GS F would cost. It is far too exotic and low-volume of an engine to be used in a GS F.

They could potentially make a new V10 based off what they learned from the LFA's V10, or use a modified IS F V8. We'll see.

Great news though that they officially mention a GS F is on the way.

Maybe the new IS-F will get a new engine that will be put in the GS-F or vice versa

OP link is bad, here it is again http://www.carpoint.com.au/news/2011...exus-gsf-26308

Thanks Good to hear they are cosidering it. But a modified V10 sounds A WHOLE LOT better than a hybrid, I just don't think a hybrid would be suitable for a GS-F at all

It probably needs to be a large V8 over 6 litres, or they need to use forced induction with the V8

If a V10 makes its way into a GS, I swear I'll sell everything and buy one lol.

what costs less, producing more LFA V10s or redesigning an all new V10...?

My personal guess is that they're designing a new V10 for the GS-F concurrently with the next set of powertrains for the 4GS.

ALSO!! this is just an idea but does anyone else think it would be cool for lexus to invest into turbo charging technology like the German rivals?? idk if the brand would be cooler to be known as high performance N/A engines, or should they go into the rivals route??

i think it would be cool if we had a poll for us clublex members to see what we the customers and enthusiasts really want to see in the next generations and updates in future vehicles... i mean this is already happening and its proven to work. lexus has probably the best customer feedback of any brand out there. lol im rambling now...well im just curious what people would like to see myself
