This is the one piece of news that I don't like. Lexus dropping the v-8 is like how Acura lost the battle a long time ago because they never made a v-8 for their larger luxury sedan. It was never going to be able to complete with Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes so with Lexus going this route, it's going to lose some customers. Personally, I don't like the hybrid because of the cvt transmission.

2 steps forward, one step back.

I am hoping they will have a legitimate(ie. at least 500 hp minimum) GS-F to compete, then I will forget about the regular V8.

3GS460 with only 340 hp really is a wasted effort and they sell so little of them ......

The 306hp is not the big issue, the problem is normally aspirated engines lack torque.

The Audi A6 3.0T can do 0-60 in 5.2 seconds thanks to the the supercharger. In some motor magazine tests it has been under 5 seconds. That's quite a bit better than the GS350 despite a similar hp rating.

It is a little frustrating that they design such a nice car (at least in terms of the interior and from what I understand the 375lb weight advantage over the 5 series should mean good handling), but then have 5 year old engines.

well to be fair, the 306hp engine is plenty for most people who are going to buy this car. no doubt about that. so even though the engine is 5 yrs old i am probably ok. but there are just the few out there who are hunger for more. i guess we will have to see how the hybrid is, which i think lexus is trying to use to replace v8.

another thing to look at is the the IS debut next year, whether it will get a new engine?

Anyone who test drives the GS350 and the A6 3.0T will feel the GS350 is slow. The price is about the same.

maybe... but it is also 400lbs lighter and NA engines always feel good throughout the range.
Hopefully GS will hold gears at the rev limiter, unlike A6.

I was hoping for a 380 hp GS460, no V8??!! I would get a V8 GS over a BMW 550i, but not a v6 or hybrid v6.
