4GS mega thread (UPDATED; preview drives, specs, more interior pics)

i won't fault it for not being a ferrari, but at the same time i don't expect it to be something fun to drive either though. that's probably why compared to my ls460l the gs350 is such a fun car to drive, but compared to say the 550i sport (both the e60 and f10), the gs350 looks like a cruiser.
for steering, i don't know, what do you compare to? camry? if so, yes, much more precise. but compared to my m3, which i consider something fun to drive (and more like somewhat entry level), it's loose

All I can say about the steering on my 2006 is that it is very TIGHT. Feels nice and heavy at speed as opposed to the 2010 which seems to be a lot lighter. I did have the steering box recall done even thought nothing was wrong with it. Since only am around my GS for a few months out of the year I can't recall if the steering feel changed after the recall. It definitely felt better after the swaybar upgrades and I would rate my steering feel above the new E Class I test drove and the E60 5 Series I test drove. I'll caveat that the E Class I drove (2010) was the new model but not a sport because the salesman was an idiot. I don't know why he took me for a drive in the low model. Could have been my appearance or something making him think I couldn't afford the higher model? lol. Felt like a boat. The 2003-2009 model I drove (2008) was a sport. It felt nice but my GS's steering beats it. Perhaps my power steering is malfunctioning causing it to be stiffer, but it still turns easily at low speeds so it's not that.
I was a passenger in a 550i over here in Germany once. It definitely felt SOLID from the passenger seat. The driver wasn't pushing it but I just had the feeling it could handle like crazy.
Next time I'm home I'll put out a message to invite another Tampa based board member to drive it. I know I'm not crazy.

I think the only reason the V8 doesn't sell is because they made it impotent.
If they had launched the 3GS in 2005 with the 380hp 4.6 V8 they unveiled in 2006, the GSV8 car would have quickly become a legend, and brought people from brands like BMW and Audi to Lexus. But they didn't - they launched with a 295hp V8. Then 2 years later when they updated it, they still didn't use the 380hp V8, but they chose to detune it.
So the GS460 doesn't sell because the retards in Lexus marketing think that people wont buy an LS460 if they can get a faster but cramped GS460 for less money.
So the story of the V8 GS is one of failure through incompetence, followed by giving up. A shame because it's a great car.

What did the interior look like in terms of electronics, navigation, etc...?
Did the rear of the production 4GS look exactly like the concept?

Lexus Australia leaked pics...
2013 GS appears to be here:
Is This The 2013 Lexus GS?
Published 12 July, 2011
The Motor Report
Images sent to a TMR reader (and current Lexus owner) by Lexus Australia as part of a feedback survey would appear to confirm the styling detail for the next GS.
"We are about to show you images that closely resemble the exterior styling of the next generation Lexus GS that is expected to launch in Australia in 2012 to compete with the likes of the BMW 5 series and Mercedes E-class," the survey reads.
"You won’t be asked any technical questions; we’re purely interested in your opinions of the new car."
If these images are close to the final product, it's clear that the LF-Gh concept's overall lines will carry over to the new production model virtually unchanged.

Pole Position
Tails are spot on based on spy images but headlights are too thin, very IS like. They need to be bolder and bulkier like on concept.

That's just another chop, and not a particularly compelling one. Headlights are off the RX450h, tails are off the 2IS, wheels are from the GS 450h and the body is the LF-Gh. I hope the production car has a similar front bumper...I like that.
Next.
Next.

Disappointed that the taillight LED pattern looks boring unlike that of the concept. Other than that it's pretty much as expected. Not bad overall.
EDIT: Yeah I agree it must be just another chop with a story that makes people think it's somewhat official.

At this point I'm more interested to know if the new GS hybrid can beat the M35h in terms of power and fuel economy, as the M35h has surpassed the GS450h in both areas, particularly fuel economy, where M35h eclipses the GS450h by 26%. The GS450h does still beat the M35h in official 0-60mph acceleration times though. If the 21% fuel economy jump we've seen from the rumored new Camry Hybrid specs is true and the new GS hybrid can switch to Li-ion batteries like the M35h (and the Prius alpha and the Prius Plug-in), I think it is possible for the new GS hybrid to beat the M35h; otherwise let's hope it at least beats it in trunk space.
