Rear door rattles
I have a 93 GS and the rear doors has a rattle inside that I can't seem to find. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? It rattles when I close it and when I drive over bumps. It appears that the rattling is eminating from the rear of the door (the portion closest to the back seat). The windows and door locks work fine.

have you tried lowering your window and then closing the door? maybe you have a loose window track. or it could be a loose rod somewhere. take the rear door panel off and have a look see.......good luck

i would open it up and make sure all the wires are tucked in. does this happen even with your windows down when you close the door?. sometimes it could be some loose wire just hanging out(switch, or light) and when you close the door or go over a bump it taps against the metal.

Thanks for the info, I will take the doors apart when my finals are over. It is pretty annoying because my rear doors don't shut with a solid sound like the front doors.

Loose rod I bet. There are usually plastic clips that hold them but they can pop out and then rattle around. I had that exact prob on my old car. it should be obvious once you take the interior panel off.

The rod(s) connect the doorhandles to the opening mechanism(s), however they engineered it doesn't matter. They use metal rods because that's not something you want to have fail. The clips allow the rods to move while preventing rattle, like keeping it on a track. See what I mean? when you pull the doorhandle it has to be connected to the opening mechanism somehow it's not like that's all computerized in our cars. I'm sure it's no big deal but I agree with you it's annoying as hell if one is loose.

It sounds like CHMPNGS might have the same problem too, that's why his door doesn't open.
How did you fix it, did you just hook everything back together or did you need new clips, or did you figure out a way to make the clips hold the rods?

Here's gompka's rear door. There's a lot of stuff there that can rattle. I don't see any clips but I bet there are some. See that foam pad? That sort of stuff is there to prevent rattles, too. Just take the panel off and shake the door and see what is making the sound.

Pianoman72 , how many screws and bolts hold the door skin on? Where are they located? I ask because I never was able to figure out how to remove the front door skin completely. Thanks.

it is tricky. i forget exactly how but here is what i kinda remember.
3-4 screws at bottom of door.
1 screw where the door latch closes
1 screw behind door handle.
and that might be it. there is just a bunch of clips at the top of the door where you gotta pull up and out to get the clips to come off. it holds on tight.
