Alright, so I think my power steering pump went out, but I'm not sure what it is.

Last night, my friend hopped in the car and put it in overdrive. He then started fish tailing the car on purpose and just messing around. I didn't care as I've done it before too.

Then I got in my car, and I went to turn out of the parking spot, and it felt like there was no power steering. So I checked the fluid right away, and there was some in there. The power steering works while I'm at like 25+ MPH, but below that, nothing. So what do you think is causing the problem?

Hey. Why don't you top it off with fresh AT fluid and see how it responds? Also, does it have a power steering leak?

Transmission fluid?

I believe it has a small leak somewhere, but nothing too serious where it all comes out while I'm driving. There's fluid in there, but just won't get to my steering wheel.

Yup. The toyota power steering system uses automatic transmission fluid. Im 99.99% sure.

So how should I do this? Just pour a little in, or what?

Yup, start the car up... Add ATF (automatic transmission fluid DEXRON II) and turn your steering wheel to help pump fluid through your system. Under the cap their should be a level indicator.

You really gotta get under and around the car though to see where the leak is coming from. You should be able to go underneath with a flash light and pin point the spot.

The thing is, it has a small leak. Nothing serious (I've been dealing with it for months).

My fluid was fine. As soon as it started acting up, I checked the fluid. It was still almost full.

Pump sounds bad, or belt slippin (less likely). You could add seal condinitioner in to try and temporaily fix the leak..
